Company recommendation

West Riding Independent Ltd.

My 1966 Mk2 needs some attention and, as I live west of Manchester the above company appears the nearest to me. I am, however, reluctant to entrust my car to a company I've not used or had a favourable recommendation for. Has anyone out there had any experience of West Riding Independent Ltd and, if so, would you recommend them?

Hi Howard

I have no knowledge of the garage you mentioned but it seems a bit of a treck from the west side of Manchester and I am sure there must be closer alternatives.

What is the nature of the attention your Mk2 requires and can you be a little more specific on your location ?

Best regards

Hi James,

My Mk 2 has one of those most difficult of problems, an intermittent fault. It will go quite happily for a trip and then park up but when I return to it I only need to switch on the ignition for both horns to start sounding. The only way to stop them is to disconnect the cable which feeds them power. After leaving them for even a little while things are back to the way they should be, until the next time. I feel the fault must be in the steering column somewhere but need a professional to find and cure the problem.

Incidentally, I live in Ashton-in-Makerfield, some 3 miles south of Wigan.

Regards

Howard

Hi James,

Thanks for the advice. I'll certainly have a word with the autoelectrician you mention. My only problem is that, in order to correct the problem, I suspect the steering column will have to be removed, dismantled and refitted so I think I will need a mechanic as well as electrician. I suppose I really should remove the steering column myself but I had electric power steering fitted which will undoubtedly complicate the issue and, in any event, I'm getting a little old to be scrabbling around under the car.

Hello Howard,

I do not believe you will need to touch the column, certainly it's worth investigating the horn push internals as that is the likely source of the problem? Start with the easy part of the job and if that is the problem, well and good, if not you have not lost anything if further dismantling is required.

To add to Howard's question (and in case he goes on his holidays near me  ) does anyone have any recommendations for the West Midlands area :?:
