Wire wheel spinner removal

Postby BookerME » Mon Oct 10, 2022 1:33 pm

On my 420 Sovereign I’ve got wire wheels with ‘Continental’ spinners. I’ve got an adaptor that I use to take them off and put them back on – with brute force (and ignorance!)

I’m looking for ideas on how to complete this using a more ‘engineering’ method, perhaps with an adaptor that has a long-arm lever attachment or even using a torque wrench.

I wondered if any members have been down this route with these types of spinners and if so, have they any (sensible) ideas or suggestions?

Cheers, Mac.

If the brass tool didn’t have a whole in the centre it could of been made with a hex in the middle to fit a long bar torque wrench.
I think all the brass tools to fit the spinners are based on originals to use a mallet. Hence it’s a bit crude.
Modern standards are rather exact and probably why it feels wrong to simply knock the thing round with a mallet.

I found this on the MWS website, it makes a lot of sense and it seems I’m worrying about nothing.
It also seems I’ve been doing it slightly wrong over the last 40-odd years.
