Guys, I’m after a little advice from a experienced head please. I bought a LHD 1961 MK2 3.8L with a DG-250 auto whilst I was posted with the Armed Forces in Canada. The car had partially been restored (rebuilt engine), new carpets, headlining after market electric seats (although I do have the originals) however the paint job wasn’t up to much and as such decided to strip the car and do a bare metal respray. There is usual corrosion, rear chassis rail (by pan hard rod) sills, lower wings and a few patch panels but on the whole of it not bad. I have bought all new panels but at the last minute my trusted welder has let me down and as such I’ve scoured for quotes to get the welding & paint done (I’m happy to put it all back together) but have been astonished at some of the quotes. Now my predicament is, although I want to restore the car as good as I can afford, I’m dubious about the amount of money I could potentially be losing. I have no real intention to sell but cutting my losses and selling it as a ongoing project (for someone with deeper pockets) may be a more viable option??I think my question is is it worth restoring as what realistically would this be worth? Granted worth is what only is someone is willing to pay but as a Armed Forces member who is also away a lot(storage costs etc) it may be a little to big to take on with limited time & money!! Cheers Matty (ps I was never in it to make a profit)
Re: Advice please!!
You can readily see what good/very good cars are fetching on the market so it will depend on how much you paid for it and how much the repairs etc will cost. Resprays in particular are expensive depending on the amount of work neccessary to get the car in good condition in the first place. A few pictures may help someone give an estimate of likely costs.
Then it will depend on the interior condition and the mechanicals of course. If in the UK then a LHD car will not fetch as much as a RHD one.
