Tube or Tubeless Wire Wheels

Hi,

I am replacing my existing 1963 MKII 3.8 Jaguar chrome wire wheels with new chrome wire wheels from Moss. The existing wheels require a tube in the tyre but the new wheels are (apparently) tubeless.

There are various videos on You Tube which suggest that a wire wheel should always have a tube in it, even if it's claimed to be a tubeless wheel.

Does anybody have experience of the benefits/downside of a tubeless tyre which has a tube in it?

Hello Alan,

tubleless wire wheels have the spokes sealed at the rims so no tube is needed.

From what i've read tubes in tubeless tyres (which is most of them), can also cause problems due to abrasion from the ribs in the inside of tubeless tyres?

I have read on other forums that although the spokes are sealed on wire wheels, this is not foolproof and can lead to the loss of air in a tubeless tyre. I have no experience or evidence but I would be pleased to receive any advice from you and others.

Hello Alan,

I bought a set of tubless wire wheels some time ago (MWS wheels) and had no problems. I forget exactly how long I had the car with them but for what it's worth they worked for me. How they are sealed is simply by running a bead of silicone sealant around the nut of each spoke, internally to seal to the rim.

Do Longstone recommend fitting tubes? (I couldn't be bothered to look at the video, I much prefer to read about anything, it's far quicker)
