Not posted for a while. But now the lighter night are coming
I want to get started on my project. I need a diagram of the S type
Scuttle which I can print of and blow up so I can see
How to dismantle and rebuild to get it working.

Just had the dash apart on my Mk2 and whilst doing it lubricated the scuttle vent operating system. Found it all easy to do as just a mechanical lever linkage and from the outside just removed the gauze. Did not take any pictures unfortunately but I think it should be straight forward to do.
Any particular specific concerns?

PPV, I take it you were able to get good access to the scuttle vent rods etc by going in through the dash? Did you have to remove the dash or simply tip the centre dash forward? I ask as my scuttle vent mechanism on my mk 2 340 is pretty well seized and that will be one of the next jobs on the list. Phil

Hi, I had to remove the dash panels for other reasons but by tilting down the centre instrument section and removing the top rail of the dashboard you should be able to access most of the internal bits to spray with oil and then the external bits through the vent itself. A bit of lubrication and constantly trying to move it should work unless it has been left to the elements and corroded beyond use.

The Scuttle vent (on the MkII) is made up of two flaps, external that you can see before the windscreen and the internal.

The inner one is hinged off the body and the outer one is simply bolted to the inner one.

To free off the inner flap you need to gain access to the hinge, you may be able to get access to the inside of the hinge from inside the car but you then have to somehow lubricate it.

There are posts on here on how to remove and permanently lubricate the hinge.

I believe the S type has this little lot operated by manifold vacuum, the flap not opening and a hissing noise when the engine is running is a sign of the vacuum being lost and weakening the mixture to the rear cylinder (eventually seizing).

Hi, not sure how you have got on but there are now several good websites from the USA with pictures etc. I found this one covered the vent area and may be of use, https://landieman.com/new-front-page/di ... ent/226-2/. It says landie man but is in fact the MK2 restoration.
