under bonnet insulation

My mk 2 Jag 340 was subject of a respray prior to me buying it and has not had any insulation fitted to the underside of the bonnet. I notice that there are different types available from the likes of Barratts etc... Does anyone know if some are better than others? I'm not bothered about OEM issues, Id rather go for practicality first.

Mine has not got insulation fitted as the engine area gets very hot and I think it runs slightly cooler when sitting in traffic. I do not notice any particular noise issues so have left it like that.
Other areas like doors, roof and floor areas and under the rear seat seem to contribute more to noise so if not interested in originality try something like Dynamat or the equivalent. I used some Toyota sound insulation from Woolies I think which I bought at one of the car shows and stuck it to the roof whilst renewing the headlining (getting rid of the old horse hair type of insulation was messy though). Pleased with the difference it made.

Thanks Paul, just that I'm aware of how incredibly hot the bonnet seems to get without any insulation as well as the sound issue. Phil
