OBD11 Scanner

Could anyone please identify an OBD Scanner that is known to work with a 2001 MY 4.0l N/A X308? I would prefer one that is not linked to a smart phone or PC.
I purchased a Vident iLink 400 that purported to cover XJ's between 1994 and 2003 along with many other models. At the time I noticed it did not include the 2001 XJ. Vident suggested using alternative models which at the time, when there were no faults, seemed to work. However now I have some faults the chickens have come home to roost and I am getting non Jaguar fault codes and a severe question as to whether it is picking up all faults. Incidentally does anyone know if the XK8 OBDs were identical for the same engine and model years?

As far as I know the XK8 uses the same codes as the XJ8.
I have not used these myself as I use the phone and bluetooth adaptor at the moment.
If I were to get a more serious reader I would opt for a Mongoose using IDS-SSD on a laptop(I think the dealers used this when our cars were made) .
