Restricted Performance

Postby Tattyhead » Sun Jul 07, 2019 12:19 pm

Hello
My 2002 3.2L XJ8 was running perfectly yesterday but as I was parking the yellow MIL light came on together with 'Restricted Performance' and rough idling. I scanned it and these are the following DTC codes;

P0303 - Cylinder 3 Misfire
P1316 - Misfire
P0341 - Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1)
P0353 - Ignition Coil 'C' Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction
P1000 & P1111 - Which I believe are just test status codes

Does the rough idling throw out the camshaft sensor?

Then I got two further warning messages ASC and TRAC Unavailable. My day was quickly getting ruined.
I left the car a couple of hours and went out to move it to somewhere I could work on it and the MIL light and all messages had vanished and the car was running perfectly again.
Has anyone experienced anything similar and what was any solution please? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanking you in advance

Hello Tattyhead.
I would suspect a faulty coil pack on cylinder 3 which is causing the misfire.
Once changed you'll probably find the other codes will disappear.
After clearing the codes you should have the P1000 which changes to P1111 after the drive cycle is completed :D .
Good luck.
Let us know how you get on.
Take Care.
Andy. :D

Hello Andy

Thank you for your reply.
At present she is still behaving. I was surprised it resolved itself. I'll take her out for a run and see what happens.
If it does reappear I may swap coil packs to see if the fault is transferred.
I will post and let you know what happens.

Kind Regards

Mark

Hi stujags,
I use the Elm 327 Bluetooth and my Android Phone with the Torque Pro App.
This sort of thing:

When I need to look deeper into the car I would certainly get an iCarsoft Code Reader.
Like this one:

In no way am I saying buy from these sources they are just a guide :D

Hope that helps Stu.
Take care.

Thanks I will pick up the scanner you recommend for future use. Once I replaced the No.3 coil on plug unit everything returned to normal. Strange that the dash lit up like a Xmas tree for just one problem.
