I realise it’s a special vehicle but the mot history would prevent me from even bidding near the estimate. Unless those repairs were done extremely well, then you could be facing annual welding repairs. Even the underbonnet looks unloved - not had an enthusiastic owner in recent times.

See what you mean about unloved: those tyres should've been changed by 2014's test they were advised in 2013
But there was no MOT done until 2017 after June 2015's fail with a host of body corrosion reports:

And it's done less than 30 miles in the last two years

OTOH, there's no reserve AFAICT -- given the above, if it goes for XJ8 Exec money, it might be worth it coz if a "proper" underside weld up's needed those costs could be covered. My feeling is that this one will be shunned by the trade so there's every likleyhood a bargain's afoot

You could be right about the lack of interest from the trade, but there are some unscrupulous folk who might do a quick tidy up and let an unsuspecting enthusiast part with big bucks for a tired old dog.
Not sure if anyone still has a new shell sitting around (they went down as low as £200 at one point) but that route would make a superb car - if I was 20 years younger - I’ve lost the fight to do stuff like that these days. Tidying the underside of this MG RV8 without any welding is about as much struggling as I need now

$8,730 +s&h from the US of A -- I don't know whether individual under cart panels that were subject to standard rot are available -- guess you've been thru that route for your Daimler (RIP)?

Just done that for my Owen (XJ6 series 1) All floor pans and cross members available from Barratts or Manners
Luckily (and one main reason why I bought) the sub-frame and body is aluminium

This assumes worse case scenario.
Which might not be evident from a cursory scrabble around with a torch at the auction site

I spent a very long time looking for a Daimler and indeed saw some rather bad examples. I finally found the right car for me with none of the normal X308 issues underneath. I’ve now had it for 4 years and have gone through every cavity with Bilt Hamber products to try to keep it from deterioration - even removing the front wings to ensure complete coverage. It is not without fault but it is, after all 18 years old.

Glad to hear yours is OK -- must've been someone else up your area that'd got hold of a XJ8 Daimler with a dissolving undercart too bad to save

I'm afraid that after the Owen (progress at last!) and another Mk IX that'd be it for me and restorations -- I'm being pulled toward Toyota-better-than-a-Toyota Lexus to see me into dotage. Even earlier ones such as LS400 don't have rotting floor pans and all the other issues north europe's manufacturers deliberately inflict on their customers. That range is comparible

100k miles up -- went for £7952 -- which doesn't seem to fully reflect its XJR100 heritage...
OTOH it's not XJ8 money either -- glad it didn't go for four grand or less, would've got upset

This XJR100 ended up at Arun Valley Jaguar a week or so after the auction. It was listed at £15k and sold within a matter of weeks!
