Sterling Performance Cars 2002 XJR 69k - be careful...

Guys,

I am selling my S-Type R and probably leaving the Jaguar owners fold for a while but I was tempted by the XJR which Sterling have up for sale on eBay. In fact they have two, at £5995 and £4995 or thereabouts, but I was interested in the first which supposedly has 69k and FSH. A high spec car with premium sound, heated seats, and gorgeous wheels.

I asked the guy to run through on the phone the "full main dealer and specialist service history". Fine up to 2007 but then nothing. MoTs support the mileage which averaged 3k per year for later years but apart from belts having been done somewhere no record of oil changes or other service work. He just kept banging on about how the mileage had been VOSA checked, even when I said I had no issue with the mileage it was the history which concerned me. I asked for the reg number to check with Jagcare and Thames Ditton myself but he said he's already tried that. It's still advertised with FSH.

A smaller issue is that I noticed the last MoT in August 2013 had mileage of just over 70k - it's now only 70,800 or similar but when I asked why they were advertising at 69k he said it was a bit of delivery and test mileage. Clearly it's not, as it must have had that 70k on it when they acquired it, they're just pricing it under a psychological barrier.

All in all, disappointed in the car (which still looks gorgeous) but more than that in the dealer. If you can't trust them on history and mileage, what else awaits?

As an ex-X308 man myself, I felt a surge of community spirit, hence this post. You can make you own minds up of course, just wanted to save someone a wasted trip to view if not as advertised.
