most of the cars that are classed as a ' Vanden Plas ' in america are equivalent to our Sovereign/Daimler spec cars here in the UK,

they however have a few differences , mostly cosmetic , like chrome tops to the door bump strips, fluted grilles and no side/wing indicators, they have a badge in the same place , this is shown below, because i got hold of the part numbers and ordered a pair , muhahahahaha

the badges however do not illuminate, you still have to have your indicator lamp connected, or the flasher relay goes a little stoopid cuz it thinks a lamp has blown , so its fixed in behind the wing section....

My mate who has a Daimler Super 8 like mine has just been lording it up to me re his side reflectors on the Daimler...he has converted them with a bulb ect that lights up each one with the sidelights.........so would this be illegal too.?...........it looks good but if its illegal it wont pass an MOT

i would say no,

and i'm considering converting my side reflectors in the same way , possibly with XK8 side lights that do illuminate ( i think ) , has he got any pictures of what he has done, so i can copy him, lol

my tax-disc isnt in the bottom left of my screen , its in the top left, i think it looks better, and is easier to get to when changing the disc , technically , its illegal to the letter of the law, but my cars never get pulled on it or had any problems

so i feel a change of sidelights once a year for the MOT coming on, lol

easy really , as stated, this badge is illegal in that it has replaced a required ( by law ) side indicator , as described in other posts,

my solution was to ' modify ' the front ( end eventually ) back bumper side reflectors as shown removed below

Jaguar in their wisdom have already made these side reflectors with sections for lamps to be fitted , these are the dark ends to the reflector, this is a hollow section , on the back there is a blank round section, this is where the bayonet lamp holder would be fitted, i have highlighted this in the next picture

this area has to be cut out, i used my dremmel with a tungsten dome bit , easy peasy
i also needed a lamp holder to plug the lamp retainer into , this was cut from my now redundant orange side indicators, the metal clips were removed, and the lamp holder was cut off with a hacksaw, then flattened on my grinding wheel , all the parts below make the new illuminated side reflector

the next step is to glue the lamp holder into the reflector

thats it, job done ,

simply install after re routing the wiring to plug into the reflector

Looks a good job done there BB im a bit like your self i like the little lighting extras and things, just to be that bit different but having the nerve to do it is another thing. Im colour blind for one thing so the wiring would look a bit odd if i did it and the sparks would be flying.
So get your gear and jump on the bus im in most days.........Joe

i drive a Jag, so i wont be using any buses in the near future , lol , but i wold be more than happy at any time to help with such projects.....

a quick update re the indicators,

the project is now fully installed and fully operational,

it doesnt look any diferent at all from stock, except for the growler badge that is,

i now have eight indicators all round the car, so can be seen from any direction, and legally compliant to, lol

There you go you see, i dont have a growler badge on my car all you Jaguar guys with your flash grills and growler badges, while poor pensioners like me have to manage with a gold "D" and a crumpled grill surround. Makes you want to sink into the deep Autolux leather, and have a kip........Joe.....

Joe,
I am an MOT tester and as long as your mates side reflectors are orange, he is OK. Anything else, illegal and a failure. If someone came to me with that and the rest of the car was Ok, I would give them the chance to replace the reflectors with the correct equipment and then issue a VT30.

Bill, thanks for the advice, the reflectors have not been changed actually its still the original equipment as standard........hes just added a bulb to the rear of the reflector (there is provision for one) this comes on with the side lights,...........Joe
