Retro Fitting the SATNAV and / or Phone Harness

Postby cngarrod » Wed Oct 29, 2008 6:28 pm

Hi Guys,

About to pick up a new toy (2000 3.2 Exec) on friday and the stereo has the satnav buttins on it, but the module isnt in the car.

Has anyone tried to fit these after they left the factory and is there a way to update the mapping (CD / DVD etc)?

Also like my current one, i have all teh phone controls, but no phone... so i was thinking maybe i can get one off ebay and fit it.

Basically, i hate buttons with labels that dont do anything... almost as much as blanking plates where buttons are on the "posher" models! It keeps me quiet, but my bank manger is never that amused!

Cheers,

Craig.

My article on this very topic was published in the July edition of Jaguar Enthusiast. It applies to a 2001 Model Year XJ8 when the wiring loom was updated to cater for Sat Nav.
Before then, to fit Sat Nav a new ICE loom had to be fitted, involving dismantling most of the car interior........not for the faint hearted!!
Phone wiring should exist but be sure to find out which type of phone the wiring is for.....Jaguar changed it from the portable Star-Tac to a brick type fixed handset for the 2001 Model Year. Good Luck !!
