I read somewhere in the context of old GM auto boxes that you can disconnect the return hose from the oil cooler and run the engine just long enough to pump out (most of) the oil from the torque converter and other gubbins.
Huh! No need to do that - GM180 boxes are self emptying as you drive, usually all over the hot exhaust with a James Bond smokescreen effect (ex Rover series 2 SD1 Vanden Plas EFI owner - enough said!)

Charming! So much for the progress on SD1 -- Had a P6 then a P5b over a 14 year period and never a moment's Borg Warner 35 failure.

Firm in Deptford SE London called Mr Shifter (yes, really!) changed a clutch band from reverse to first though (so they told me -- there was much better pickup in 1st after). Firms that can drop, disassemble, repair, re-build, and re-install in a day are fast disappearing -- AFAICR not expensive either in the 80s

Those gearboxes were much less complected and no electronic involvement.

I had an early 2.6 with a BW 65. it was dreary to say the least. Then I had a facelift 2.6 with a GM180. That felt much stronger. After that I had a V8 SE manual which was much better. A Vitesse GM180 followed which didn`t suit the car so I converted it to the shot peened manual box which made the car. The problem was the body dropped to bits and the EFi was a nightmare. When it rained and I unlocked the car, the sunroof would open! I walked away from the range in favour of a manual MT75 equipped 4x4 2.9 Sierra with a Superchip. That was probably the most bullet proof car I ever owned.

Nowadays, despite some of the issues we experience, we get much better cars for vastly less money. However when something major goes wrong, the car can easily become a candidate for Death Row in a breakers yard.

Haven't seen any .pdf files around for service schedules. Like a tick sheet or similar? What do the service departments use?
Is there anything better than this about?
http://www.robisonservice.com/servicede ... asp#group3
Just got hold of: "3.2 Litre and 4.0 Litre V8 XJ Series – Vehicle Maintenance Sheet JTP 918 English published by Jaguar Cars Limited, Service Communications"
It wasn't a blank so have made a fair representation of it in Word .doc format if anyone wants.
I've also added some boxes for recording tyre tread depth.

If there's anywhere that I can upload it to then I will.
As .doc attachments aren't allowed in here.
Otherwise PM me an email address for return attach
