Re: Coolant leak
Final update on this one. The leak was quite small and unless something unusal happensI will never know what it was. On impulse (sorry chaps) I replaced it with a 2.7D XF, so now don't have a bulletin board to post to ! However in the last week I drove the STR to the Kent coast and back about 600 mi...

Re: Coolant leak
Hi Oldtimer, It was tested by the garage hot, and left under pressure but nothing seen. Problem was getting the car to them cold; but that's what I expect we will do next week. Don't expect I will be driving it much in the next week, by the time I've driven it to them and allowed it to cool overnigh...

Coolant leak
My 2006 STR is proving eccentric at the moment, having had a leaking oil cooler pipe replaced it started to drop coolant which was traced to the top hose. This had split where the small pipe tees off to the heater, this too was replaced. Having got the car home and driven about 60 miles I noticed tw...

STR Update
Thought I would write a few words to say what's happen recenty on my 2006 STR now at 75000ish miles. In general all's going well, it had a new set of Bridgestone's last year when the front Continentals developed cracks on the side walls, they were about 4 years old and probably half worn, they came ...

Re: whats the difference???
Hi, I've just had a look at a brochure and the main differences are the trim and colours as you say but the sport models do have a 'sports suspension' as well.
I had a SE which was quite soft but I haven't driven a sport so I don't know the difference.
All the best Mike

Cautionary Tale
A few words which may save others time and embarassment. Just before setting off on a 250 mile working trip and late as usual I noticed my SatNav charger wasn't working. Pulled it out from the socket and the end had cracked off. These later ones have a plastic screwed retainer that holds a fu...

Re: Sanity check please
Rob, Derek. Thanks for all the comments, seems like my initial thoughts were not too far off the mark. I hope to come to the XJ40 seminar, posted the booking form yesterday, so I'm sure I will have a chance to build up my knowledge. I couldn't make the X300 event due to family commitments but I expe...

Sanity check please
Probably rather a strange topic but I do around 18k miles per year usually in longish runs say 150-300 miles stay a couple of nights and then drive back. Probably about 2 or 3 times per month. I do consultancy work and there isn't much about locally. For the past 4 years I've used S types a diesel a...

Another Return-nic
Hello again I have eventually found my way back to the new web site. No excuses except that I did the 3 peaks challenge at the end of July and 'training' took up quite a lot of my time. I traded the 2.7 SE for a STR last October after doing around 45000 miles in 2.5 years without any problems. I'm a...

Re: New S type owner with a few questions
Hi, before the STR I had a 54 plate SE diesel which was at 60kmiles when I bought it so roughly 20k miles per year. Bristol Transmissions changed the oil and filter at about 70k and I ran the can without any problems to 112k at 18k per year. I had a bottle of the oil which came out and although dirt...
Re: Remapping
A final update on the Torquing of Cats module. I fitted the chip to see what difference it made but the primary goal was improved economy. In general the chip did tighten the feel of the car, but the early (54 plate) diesel with the auto box did in my view still suffer some lag. Albeit once it got g...
Andy, I'm in the throws of putting a 'torquing of cats' chip on my 2.7 diesel. This is an external chip which plugs into the fuel control circuit at the back of the engine. I had the timing belt changed last week and aim to put the chip on in the next couple of weeks. Peter D James will insure the c...

Cam belt change
At the S type Seminar in April I learned that my 2.7 Diesel had a cam belt, this was a shock as 2 years before when I asked my main dealer and a specialist I was told the engine had chains. Worse still David Marks said the belt should be changed at 105,000 miles and mine had 102,000 on the clock. Th...

Coolant leaks
I have an early 2.7 diesel, registered in September 2004, when I bought the car at 68000 miles and 3.5 years old I had a problem with an intermittant coolant leak. This turned out to be the pipe to the auxillary heater corroding through from the outside see pictures. http://www.jec-stype-forum.org.u...
