Re: Help needed with front bearing end float
Hi Richard, Is your wheel bearing issue OK now? you have to have some play, or the bearings could seize and shear off the stub axle! Are the wheels tight enough? a good "workshop" wheel hammer is the best way to do this, from tools and spares. Wear in the stub axle is felt underneath, where the bear...

Re: Rev Counter
Hello Jim, you can not damage it, as you say, it is driven by an AC generator from the back of the inlet cam. Try a voltmeter on it on tick over, on AC range! it should show about 6 volts.

Re: Fuel Octane and fuel additives
95 octane should only have 5% ethanol, but some has more, which being corrosive and hygroscopic, will help to reduce the life of your fuel filter. Clean out the swirl pot, and clean the filter in the swirl pot, if very dirty it can be pulled close to the end of the pick up pipe and reduce flow. Then ...

Re: Fuel starvation issue
I would check the fuel pressure, I think that it is 3 bar on this model. Avoid 95 octane fuel, it can have more ethanol, and this, being corrosive just picks up more dirt. Try Roger at AJ6 Engineering?
The fuel pumps are the most likely cause of this problem.

Re: Solex carbs
Solex carbs do have drain pipes from the inlet manifold, this allows excess fuel to drain, and stop the engine flooding.

This is a common fault, even more so on the IRS cars, XJS, E type etc. The hoses only last about 5 years!
