Re: DPF replacement
Thank you Mike & Rob, I certainly concur with what you both say and now here is my current situation. I have just late today got a call to say car is ready to go, so picking it up tomorrow. I think it is a recon DPF that has been fitted so the cost is not bank- busting. In total 350 dabs ( lost poun...

DPF replacement
This is the latest event following on the heels of fuel filter leak. Now it is the DPF which has been declared beyond cleaning. The car was running well following the fitting of a new fuel filter apart from the odd slight puff of smoke from engine bay. That,I thought, was just the residue of the lea...

Re: Do you check your tyre pressures regularly?
You are spot on about that, I check them sometimes if going far but I have now learned the lesson since going to get the wheels balanced and alignment done. First thing pointed out to me was two rear tyres underinflated, one wearing on the inside shoulder and the other in the middle of the tread. Bu...

Re: Rumbling Mystery
Ok Mike I will have a chance to look at that too when it is up on the lift for a now more pressing problem which has since established. That is to say I have encountered a fuel leak from the bottom of the filter. It was that little plastic or nylon drain thing and on tightening it snapped off so awa...

Re: Rumbling Mystery
Thank you Mike, I will consult with my mechanic on those particular possibilities. I guess I had better not delay too long.
Many Thanks,
Thomas.

Rumbling Mystery
Heres hoping someone will have an idea of what causes this rumble. It became noticable as a constant slight rumble at all speeds. I tried selecting Neutral when going downhill but noise still the same. Thinking that it might be wheel/ tyre related I decided to get the four wheels balanced and lazer ...

Re: Whistling/wheezing noiseI
Thanks Robbie and Sheldon. The asthmatic car has now been sorted once again. On examination and testing by my local independant it was found to be caused by a slight leak at a turbo-charger and one other in the middle of the exhaust system. These were repaired plus a loose sensor. An extra benefit I...

I will try to have a look at those hoses tomorrow.

Whistling/wheezing noiseI
I hope to get some opinion on this as to whats happened or if or not there is a problem. Since yesterday there has been this whistling/ wheezing noise with a fall-off of power when on a slight hill. Then it would be ok on the straight but not good for overtaking. So off I went to discuss with my loc...

Pheasant in boot
Well thats what it sounds like! This is some sort of alarm that I've never heard before in this 07 diesel Stype. It is not very loud and just makes a few short hoots on locking the car. It also sounds when automatic lock functions on driving off. The key-fob has not been functioning on the lock but ...

Re: Engine Coolant Cap Warning Sticker
Hi there Richard, You didnt say what car its for, is it the XJ series 1. If your local parts shop cant supply one then try Eurojag online or any dismantlers. Compare it with one off something else which may be ok.

Re: New battery clears persistent uncoded glitch.
Good ! Mike you got rid of the Poltergeist and the Bosch silver seems to be one of the best. I had a suspicion that the very cold weather had an effect on my battery which was new last summer. I think it has the brand name 'Global' and they also make the 'Yuasa'. I just checked and it is 100ah but m...

Re: Temptation!
Hi Robbie, Since the experts have yet to advise you I can only say have a good look under. In 2004 I had an XJ40 3.2, it was a 1992 with 130k miles. A very nice black one, looked immaculate. No mechanical or electrical problems but, after a few months of ownership I thought I would clean it up a bit...
