Re: STARTER MOTOR
If you check out SNG Barratt's website, they recommend a variant of the C22256 part number for E-types, which appears to be slimmer than C27178. Hence, you may already have the correct starter as your spare. If you remain unsure, drop Ken Jenkins an email. I'm sure he will be able to give you chapte...

Re: Headlight washers.
Removing the headlamp isn't difficult (3 fixings plus the wheel arch liner clips & the electrics plug), so it's probably quicker to do that than spending time working around the problem. You also need to establish if either of the washer tangs are broken, causing it to have come loose. Mike.

Re: Fading of convertible hood
Over the years, I've used most of the major brands' hood cleaning/revival kits, including the Jaguar branded versions and all seem to work OK with care. Coloured hoods, like your blue version, do seem more difficult to restore to a good standard, so I think it would be sensible to use a kit designed...

Re: V12 constantly popping
Removing a V12 cylinder head is not a task to be undertaken lightly. It pays to eliminate all other options first. Popping and misfiring can be caused by air leaks so check every inlet manifold gasket and vacuum line for leaks and perishing. Using a good old-fashioned Colortune unit can be useful to...

If you haven't already done so, try listing this information in the Club Classifieds (for free). Then, it will also appear in the back of the magazine and receive wider coverage. Mike.

Re: Rust prevention subframe
Assuming the warning was meant as advice to stop the situation getting any worse, there are businesses prepared to treat and stabilise any rust before adding a protective coating. The treatments are rarely cheap - typically around £1500. David Marks in Nottingham has been known to carry out this wor...

Re: 2009 xkr 5.0
From the limited information available in this post, I would attempt to narrow down the possible culprits by first checking the cooling fan for the engine ECU. I don't know how long it's programmed to run after switching off but, if it's running for a very long time, suspicion must fall on its tempe...

Re: Rear subframe
Autoreserve (specialist Jaguar breakers) are near you (Ilkeston) and are good to deal with. Try asking Autoreserve if they have any good subframes and take the repair from there. The company is close enough to pop along and view a subframe before buying. Mike.

Re: Misfire
If the car is backfiring when warm, it is quite likely that the fuel/air mixture is running weak. Thus, start the diagnosis by methodically checking for air leaks from the inlet manifold/head joints to the throttle bodies paying particular attention to the various vacuum lines and valves. Only if no...

Re: Hissing sound from engine just after engine stopped.
Could it be a less than perfect coolant cap seal? Pressure in the coolant system could be forcing either air or coolant past a defective seal, dependent upon coolant temperature and how full the system has been filled. Mike.

Pull the outer edge of the mirror glass towards the rear of the car. That will release the glass from its two clips. Mike.
