The discs are probably OK but you'll get the same effect if they are refitted out of true. You need to have them set up with a dial gauge to make sure they are rotating only in 1 vertical plane. That should cure it.

What is the function of the header tank?
Sorry to hear of these problems - we all know that an overheating V12 is no fun. I rebuilt my car's cooling system last year, and found it quite tricky to get right. My opinion, for what its worth, is that the header tank is not involved. Being down by a litre or so should not have such an effect on...

headlining abuse
There is a method - depends how brave you feel though! Get the headlining out, then peel back the fabric to reveal the board underneath. Get a tub of PVA, a 4 inch paintbrush, then take a deep breath... Use the PVA all over the board, get it on thick. It will be as messy as hell, the PVA will mix wi...

Thanks Glenn. I didn't need to even drive it - just started it up (which I hadn't done for over a month) and listened to it! I am pretty sure the dampers at the rear are shot. It's not that the car rolls so much, but that it is inconsistent, it lurches. It doesn't feel as solid on the road as my old...

XJRS Suspension - advice needed
I've decided to have a go at the suspension on my XJRS (as I appear to be keeping it - see other posts..!). It's a bit rolly around corners so I assume it needs work. It still sits well, no sagging etc, so I assume springs are OK, shocks probably gone. Am I right? If so, what shocks to use? I am loo...
Had it 3 years, spent £2K, still needs more! But nearly there - soon it will be pretty good. Tried starting it today but no good - it's punishing me for neglecting it for weeks! Battery is dead (this car eats batteries - do they all do this?) but should get it going tomorrow. Yes, I'm keeping it... HM
Sell it?
OK here it is. If you read Classic Car Mart, or surf the PH website, you will know I have been trying to sell my black XJRS. Having endured all sorts of muppets calling/emailing for no reason, I am almost reduced to giving it away. I keep telling myself I must be mad - race bred V12, easy to look af...

Dave I haven't actually done it, but did come close when rebuilding the cooling system as I had to get to the t pieces at the front of the engine. I reckon it could be done if you got everything else out of the way, inc taking the bonnet off which is not going to be the easiest of jobs. But yes, I r...

Pop, My XJRS has the same bushes. I got mine out using lots of WD40, and a suitable socket to drive them with a hammer. Neither the bushes or the rack were damaged (in fact I am going to have to refit them as they are still miles better than the so called sport poly bushes I got from an allegedly ex...

Tel, I've got the manual in front of me - according to supplement A the front bulb failure module is on the relay panel on the passenger side. It looks like the bottom component on the left hand side of the panel, so should be easy to get to. If that doesn't help let me know and I'll try and get a p...

In the boot, remove the right hand trim bits to reveal the fuel pump relay, and disconnect it. Then crank over for a few seconds. As Tel says, you can then clamp up the fuel filter lines either side of the filter, which is behind the spare wheel cover, and disconnect it. I'd have some cloth ready in...

It sounds like a fuel problem to me - when you sit churning it over, is there a strong smell of petrol? If not, fuel is not getting through. I have heard that cars can show this symptom when they have a blocked fuel filter - fuel in the system gets it going, but suction on the fuel line draws up muc...

Gordon - you didn't think that because you've got a subframe to change the car would have pity on you and behave itself, did you? I have just got mine back on the road after 2 years - it started with 'taking it off the road for a couple of weeks to do some work on it'! And it broke down the day afte...

Coil Failure
In case it may help others, I thought I would put down the details of a coil failure episode. My '89 XJRS 6 litre died on the motorway last week. I had literally just got it MOT'd the day before after 2 years off the road, so I was probably asking for it... There were no warning signs, just a sudden...
