Hi there, if you can't find an original, I fitted a vacuum valve made for an american Ford.
All the details are on the following post... perfect fit and works as per the original.
http://www.jec.org.uk/forums/viewtopic.php?f=119&t=6694 is the web address for the post.
Hope this helps.

Re: Mk 2 3.4 litre automatic speedo
I think most models of this era got the 140mph speedo as the e-type had it. Commonality accross the model range saved money & probably did no harm to sales if your Mk2 speedo went higher than the car could...

S-type vacuum operated heater valve.
Just a note for anyone looking for a replacement for this item. I have obtained & installed a valve from the States, originally for a Ford & opens when vacuum is applied. The water pipework is of the correct size but the vacuum pipe had to be swaged out using eletricians tape until a good seal was o...

Re: Carb problems....
How long has the car been off the road?
Don't forget timing. Vacuum leaks can also compromise the advance/retard of the ignition causing rough running & poor combustion.
As Jagaz says the more use the better...

Re: Wheeler Dealers
I haven't seen the Mk2 Wheeler dealer episode yet... I'm sure we'll have ample repeats to make up for it, tho. It sounds as if this follows the tried & tested modus operandi, fix a couple of faults, add some new trim & claim a 'profit'! Were they dependant on making a proper profit, Mike Brewer woul...

Re: Classic Car Magazine Compact Jaguar "Shootout"
back on track, then... I bought this issue yesterday, as reading material on a train journey from Manchester... This is one of the magazines I buy occasionally, as it has a good spread of classic cars and events. I wasn't expecting a great deal from this paticular article and wasn't disappointed. It...

Re: First few months with an S-type
Hi all, another update... engine out, clutch & sump replaced, general service, various steering joints replaced & a fresh MOT... clutch plate was down to the rivets, so clutch kit fitted along with a new slave cylinder... leaks have been reduced to one minor from the power steering and what a differ...

Re: Excessive fume smell
A tiny weep can give off a lot of a petrol smell. My S-type smelled quite badly in the same places as yours & all I could find was a tiny bit of dampness from the left tank drain plug. Initially I discounted this as there was quite a bad smell in the cabin, but having had to drain the tank, (as I ha...

Re: dynamo/power steering query
Alec, Boy, is my face red? You bet it is! I have now tightened the fan belt and normal service is resumed... I'll now go quietly away & write 100 times: " I must not jump to the conclusion that there is something complicated wrong with every fault I find on the Jag!" many thanks for your, timely ste...

dynamo/power steering query
Hi all, I've just got my S-type back after having the sump & clutch replaced, obviously an engine out job, & have noticed that there's a problem with the dynamo not charging as it was. Before this work was carried out the warning light would extinguish at the slightest increase in revs & the ammeter...

Re: First few months with an S-type
Well, as spoken of in the first post, the time has come to rectify a few of the larger problems with the s-type. It's booked in in a week's time to have the engine out. The main reason for removing the engine is to replace the sump, which has a hairline crack & a bodged drain plug. The clutch seems ...

Re: First few months with an S-type
Hallo Russel,
I always remember the s-type as being low at the back & quite like mine the way it is...
There are some photo's of mine here:

Re: Wiring Diagram
hi Buzetti, the best set of wiring diagrams I've seen come from Coventry Auto Components and are available on ebay: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/380417274220?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1439.l2649 at £11, I thought they are excellent value as all the systems are broken down into individual ...

Hallo Russell,
from floor to top of arch with correct tyre pressures read 47.5cm in new money & 18 & 3/4inches. Both sides within mm's of each other.
hope this helps, Peter.
