Just an addition to this topic - the handbrake cables are a notorious weak point on these cars and very expensive. We had them done on our D Estate and from memory it was over £200 at Guy Salmon in Oxford... I'm sure it could have been done cheaper elsewhere, but if it says Jaguar on the bonnet it h...

Good news

I don't know if you have a tow bar fitted to your car, but I can say that the tow bar mounted types ( Thule etc ) by sheer virtue of the fact that they are mounted on the bar are so much better than the "clip-on" type. So saloon or estate it makes no difference.
