Re: 16 MPG Normal?
Sam, For what it's worth my 3litre V6 is only used for longer runs and would expect a return of 25/30mpg. I once did a very careful check going to my daughters house for the day 70miles each way mostly Motorway. It was good to see 99.9mpg when going down hill. The most boring trip ever . A full tank...

Re: Rear Caliper Rubber seals
Hi,Doug, That was clever of you to put that link in. Thanks very much, I don't know how to do that. Any how earlier today I sat and read the article again myself. I have to say it was jolly hard going. Les, I cannot recall if your vehicle has the electric park brake or a good old fashion lever. I wo...

Re: Rear Caliper Rubber seals
Hi Les, We last spoke at the Jaguar day in the new forest at Beauliegh while you were parked next to Mike K. I'm sorry to hear about your rear brake problem. I wrote an article on this subject for the magazine which was published in the Dec 2013 issue Vol29 No12. I'm sure one of our learned members ...

Re: Series 2 keeps blowing overdrive fuse
Alan,
I have recently responded to an overdrive problem on a Mk 2 please try and find it and have a read.
My initial thinking is that it may just be solenoid adjustment required.
Do come back I'm sure we can work through this

Re: The Algarve or Bust
Nick, You lucky son of a gun, sadly my days of motoring around Europe are over I think. It was probably back in the mid eighties that we used to tour France in my XJ12. What a fabulous improvement in the road network in the subsequent years. We got down to Barcelona one year, despite a careful recor...

Re: Manual gearbox oil
Hi Dan, I backed the S out of the garage today. I laid down beside the car with a mirror and torch to try and see the Gear box drain plug. Sorry no luck there. Moving everything around to put the S on the lift would have been to much faffing about. There are three under panels. One beneath the engin...

Re: Manual gearbox oil
Dan, I have had to attend an appointment today but don't give up I shall be back. Mean while I am interested to know what facilities you have available to gain access to do this job. Do you have a pit or lift. Have you read the drivers handbook with regard jacking points and safety requirements. Fin...

Re: Could you please advise the stud torque setting and sequence of tightening once head gasket has been fitted. 1963, 3
Sorry for the confusion, Unfortunately when I pressed the submit button the sequence moved around. If you simply write out those numbers on a sheet of paper ensuring that 13 is above 14 and at one end and 11 is above 12 at the other and that 1 is above 2 at the centre then you have it. 11 is on the ...

Re: Manual gearbox oil
Dan, You don't say what year model your vehicle is which would help. As for quantity of oil. Hopefully your gear box will have both a drain plug and a bung in the side to allow you to replenish My 03 YM S type with Gtrag manual gearbox has both a drain and filler plug. Normal practice is to drain th...

Re: Putting the car to bed for winter
Hi Robbie, I agree entirely with David and Mike above and have nothing to add. You are fortunate to have a nice dry garage in which to keep it. Perhaps the winter months is the time to do one or two of those jobs we promised ourselves to do. Early in the new year we occasionally get those high press...
