I always leave the key turned until the system check has finished and then once I've started the engine, I don't pull away until it's ticked over for a bit and the choke has reduced. I often get the error message "Trac not avail" when I start the car (2002 XK8 - 20,000 miles). this happens more often when it is cold or wet, which originally made me think it was the battery. Unfortunately, after changing the battery, it still does it. I'm sure I have an electrical bug somewhere.....
