Idling Issues
You could try looking for cracked or worn vacuum hoses. I had a 'fast idle' problem that was cured by simply replacing a split hose (from one of the airboxes to a y-shaped metal pipe thing, as far as I remember). This might also, I suppose, affect the cruise control if it gets mixed signals about va...

Re: Newbie
Wow, a Guy Salmon XJR-S! That's the only one I've ever seen!
BTW Paul, I'm planning to take the car to the NEC on Sunday. If you're going to be there, PM me your mobile number and you can have a look at it 'in the flesh'.

Hi Phil
Have a look in the 'Aircon' forum (lower down the index). There's lots of good stuff there.

Wow, a Guy Salmon XJR-S! That's the only one I've ever seen! Could you do me a favour, please - when you enter the car in the XJS Register, could you please catgeorise it as an XJR-S but mention in the "Comments" area that it is a "Guy Salmon" model with the original GS grille. This is because you'v...

Interior lights on instrument panel not working
Welcome Milan
I'm a new boy, too, and my XJS has a load of unlit bits in the dash - we'll just have to learn where to look

Re: Newbie
thats really good news, and i'm glad to see its an original Guy Salmon car to, and being an XJR-S is great , is it a 6ltr ? or the standard 5.3, as they came in both guises It's a 6.0, and goes like a train :D It has sports suspension etc. as standard, so it also doesn't roll about. Very 'flicky' :...

Throttle cable
I've got a stretched throttle cable, so I'm losing out on about 1" of play and the kickdown doesn't work. Jag, David Manners and Classic Parts all say the cable is obsolete and out of stock. Any ideas (or spare ones in the garage)? At the moment, I'm looking at getting a cable rebuild.
Thanks
Thanks
Newbie
Hi BB Thanks for the welcome. I understand that there are a lot of 'modified' cars about, but I think (hope?) I've got a 'straight' one. The registration document describes the car as a "Jaguarsport XJR-S", and the sales receipt shows it was, indeed, supplied by Guy Salmon to a London businessman. A...

I just insured my XJR-S (for the first time) and the best quote was with Adrian Flux - £250 cheaper than FJ, but I did want 3,000 pleasure plus 2,000 business miles. Even though that made it a bit expensive, it was still much cheaper than putting the XJR-S on my 'normal' insurance (with Direct Line,...
