Re: 1987 Series 3 Fuel Tank(s) Electrical Wires - Go Where and What?
I thought the S3 (and later S2) cars had submerged pumps. What is the donor car, 4.2, V12 ?

Re: 1987 Series 3 Fuel Tank(s) Electrical Wires - Go Where and What?
Different to what, an earlier S3? Could it be the wiring for either the in tank fuel pumps or the changeover system?

Re: New Tyres
I looked at them a while back while searching for a set of budget 205 70 15 as a stop gap to replace ancient Pirellis, something put me off but I can't think what. I ended up buying Goodride's which had decent reviews and performance ratings and put them on Kent alloys but haven't used them yet.

Great YouTube channel
In researching the model I found a great channel called Living With A Classic including a 4.2 head stripdown carb tuning and other well shot and informative stuff including insight into the long stud version. Mostly based on an S2 that appears to have a later engine with the lateral cooling passages...

Re: Jaguar series 3 XJ6 Radiator.
A couple of years back I had an XJ-S V12 rad re-cored by Bryan and Son in High Brooms near Tunbridge Wells 01892 544635. Very old school place that gets lots of vintage and veteran work. Can't remember what I paid it was around £150-£200 I think. He also brazed my XJ6 expansion pipe when I broke it ...

Re: oil leak from head gasket area
Hi Mike, yes maybe I have got long stud paranoia, and I had thought about a compression test. But I've got some new improved cam cover gaskets and new O rings so I might as well fit them and see if that makes a difference. I've already replaced the oil feed pipe washers. Maybe I'm not seeing a leak ...

oil leak from head gasket area
Having chased down some leaks from the cam cover gaskets I thought I'd got them all but as we've got into winter I now have one that manifests itself when the engine cools down. It seems to be coming from the exhaust side of the head gasket between cylinders 1 and 2, runs down the side of the block ...

Re: Gearbox mount, series 3
The bush is probably CAC3227. Not sure about the spring as I think they might differ between 4.2 and 5.3. I just changed the bush (on my manual car) and did it with the car on ramps using an axle stand to support the box and a trolley jack to take the strain while I undid the bolts. I also needed th...

Insulation between gearbox and body?
1972 S1 manual. I noticed some sponge like material between the front of the gearbox and the transmission tunnel where it meets the bulkhead. Is it a bodge to stop knocking as a result of a worn rear mounting (now fixed), or is it meant to be present? In trying to research this I found a diagram for...

Re: Fuel pump conundrum
From the Burlen website:
Part Number: AZX 1308
Description: HP Electric Fuel Pump - Dual Polarity
I'm told that the only polarity specific pumps they now make are the electronic ones which are AZX 1308EP and EN respectively.

Re: Fuel pump conundrum
Hi Alec according to Burlen the AZX1308 is dual polarity. The CZX2004 they inform me is a dual polarity diode whose function is to limit arcing between the points, and is connected between the points arm and the earth side of the points. Burlen suggested I disconnected the diode to see if the pump r...

Fuel pump conundrum
I've replaced the tanks and cleaned up the fuel system. To get the car running I put a few litres in the RH tank until I could hear bubbling when I blew up the pipe on the inlet side and reconnected the RH pump . Nothing, looks like the pump electrics failed (points burned and springs not closing th...

Yes, one rubber bush was missing so I replaced that. Fortunately the mounting brackets were ok.

Re: XJ6 S1 exhaust mountings
Hi Mike I found that using an old fashioned exhaust clamp rather than one of the theoretically better single bolt types worked better on those joints. Still a bit worried about all that weight hanging off one downward facing joint.
