Re: Battery Bracket for 1974 XJ6
Hi Mike I have noted your knowledge on the use of non-return valves on the 6 cylinder engines which were in use at the time for future reference and thanks for that. Luckily I only had to tap that pump the once and it behaved even when switched to other pump for several miles and then switched back ...

Re: Battery Bracket for 1974 XJ6
Hi Mike, just to say left fuel pump needed just a slight tap a couple of times and started clicking , so burst into life . So have ran that for a while as it has last years fuel in it, and always have a rubber hammer as part of the tool kit on board knowing we have been there a number of times befor...

Re: Battery Bracket for 1974 XJ6
Hi Mike, it may seem a silly question but where would the change-over valves be for the fuel pumps ? I may have been looking at them but when I replaced the pumps for new ,I don`t recall seeing anything like this near the pumps only the fuel filter which I had replaced by garage in far right corner ...

Re: Battery Bracket for 1974 XJ6
Cheers Mike, I didn`t want to faff about with altering the box really , that`s why I wondered if anyone had used an aftermarket bracket to secure the battery in situ. May have to adapt batt box in the future in order it keep it original. An issue which I was surprised with this morning when I took c...

Battery Bracket for 1974 XJ6
Hi folks, has anyone come across a suitable battery bracket for a series 2 XJ6 ? I know most had the actual battery box and this still does, but the fan hasn`t ever worked that I have noticed. The battery doesn`t need replacing yet but you never know as I had a battery fail on two modern cars within ...

Re: Brake light switch,Bulbs in speedo, rev counter and 4 smaller dials
Hi Mike you are so right, real mechanics are so thin on the ground. If any other issues crop up with the old girl (after I fix the fan heater ,hopefully) I will go on the forum as usual, and with the knowledge you and others have about these cars who have helped me with problems that crop up, that`s...

Re: Brake light switch,Bulbs in speedo, rev counter and 4 smaller dials
Hi, Mike thanks for that info where the relay is, has K 49 marked on it so will be looking for same as, if available. Quite a tight area when looking at it this morning. Tried fan again just in case it would work but still only work on Med and is making a clattering sound , rather odd (very noisy). ...

Re: Brake light switch,Bulbs in speedo, rev counter and 4 smaller dials
Hi Mike, yes that is an odd one. I have managed to get dash lights working , while sorting the brake light switch I did notice that the trim under the steering where the fuses are was a bit loose. It appears to me that for what ever reason it had been removed as a wire was not connected properly and...

Re: Brake light switch,Bulbs in speedo, rev counter and 4 smaller dials
Hi folks, I took car for MOT on monday and passed no advisories so hope saga is over . Just a quick question to those who have the chrome wheel embellishers on the steel wheel`s, do any of the embellishers move and trap the tyre valve? The one on the offside front moves clockwise not a great deal bu...

Re: Brake light switch,Bulbs in speedo, rev counter and 4 smaller dials
Hi Ray, I am still trying to track down the dials not lit when lights switched on so that is still ongoing, not that desperate as never drive it in the dark, but will still pursue issue. I was told by company that interior lights, radio and fan don`t work. The map light and offside light on door pill...

Re: Brake light switch,Bulbs in speedo, rev counter and 4 smaller dials
Hi Ray, thanks for replying regarding the issues. I got out this morning as soon as light, moved car out brake lights still shining brightly as expected and tried to have a better look at this so-called brake light switch. Being six foot tall and broad where that's positioned you really need to be c...

Hi Mike, yeah cheers I know it will be worth it in the end ,to have it running and as it should. And they have just rang me to say it`s ready ,just waiting to be cleaned and I am able to pick up late afternoon. Re: 1974 series 2 4.2 difficult to start after 60 mile run
Hi folks just thought I would give an update as to what progress has been made since I was last on here. I rang a company who sell classics of various types and generally very low miles in the Peterborough, Cambs area some almost look as good as new and enquired who they use to do any mechanical wor...

Re: Blowing 25amp fuse when adjusting seat
Hi folks, just an update really , I looked under drivers seat ( admittedly the first time apart from hoovering, and you don`t really look right underneath) and found a philips head bolt approx 2" ( in old money) touching the left runner and the framework of the seat. I couldn`t see from where it cam...
