Re: Stalls When Hot
Update: Mid last year I removed my carbs and completely stripped them down, I vapour blasted the bodies (I have the equipment) then reassembled the carbs using genuine kits that I purchased from Southern Carburettors near Gatwick. I tuned the carbs using the hiss method then fine tuned using a Colou...

Re: Ruff idle when warm or cold
On my 3000 V6 there is a small rubber inlet elbow at the rear of the engine that had a split in it from age/heat which caused the engine to stall but only when hot in heavy stop start traffic. It meant removing the inlet manifold for access and from memory there was a YouTube Video someone had poste...

Re: Stalls When Hot
I have experienced a similar issue with the idle decreasing to the point where it would sometimes stall when the clutch was depressed, although this has improved significantly since I serviced the carbs and fiddled with the pedal linkage. Not a full rebuild just cleaned them up, fitted new gaskets ...

Re: Stalls When Hot
I'm very surprised to read that heat had to be used to release the idle screw on a carb that was "rebuilt 10,000 miles ago". Unless you know and can trust the quality of the "rebuild" work it might be as well to discount the earlier rebuild and start from scratch! Robbie Yes, 10,000 miles and 18 ye...

Re: Stalls When Hot
I haven't found enough spare time to delve into the carbs to date but will have to start in the next few days. I did try to adjust the idle screw on the rear carb but it was locked solid, had to use heat on it to release it so suspect these carbs are sticky inside. Quite possibly this circuit is blo...

Re: Stalls When Hot
Hi Goss Can you give us a little more info. Do you mean it won't idle when you take your foot off the pedal and the revs fall back (when hot) - or that it won't idle from start up when hot. Was any work done on the car before the problem started - was it a sudden or progressive fault etc. Any furth...

Re: Stalls When Hot
I have exactly the same issues. I've put it down to fuel vapourisation and am considering driving around with the bonnet open  I have been using the car since 1999 and its only started doing this in the last 18 months, prior to this issue it has always been great with no difference in perform...

Re: Stalls When Hot
I have replaced all leads with copper ones and the coil too.I had a old Range rover years back , that would cut out when hot , turned out to be the HT lead to the coil , are you using copper leads ?

Stalls When Hot
Hello Chaps, Wonder if you can point me in the right direction? My MK2 3.8 runs with twin SU carbs that were rebuilt 10,000 miles ago and not had a problem with them until now. Car starts perfectly and runs and idles well when cold either on or off the electric choke but once the engine is hot it wi...

Re: Saved from the scrapyard - A story of love and passion (and expense)!!
Hello Les,
Definitely not worth repairing so it will probably be scrapped soon
if there was a small chance these would be collectable I would keep it but it would need to be sorted first. The body is in superb condition and has been garaged for all but the last 3 years.

Re: Saved from the scrapyard - A story of love and passion (and expense)!!
Great story Mike, My 1999 3.0 SE V6 that I have owned since 6 months old has been sitting in my back garden for 3 years now, since the reverse on the auto gearbox started juddering and it won't go into top gear at anything over 50mph (does below this speed) we had to upgrade. Simply uneconomic to re...

Re: Rear Suspension Banging
Couldn't agree with you more, it's usually accident investigation engineers that find the misuse of fasteners and then its too late for the owner, occupants and other victims. I always use fasteners from a reputable source and to the manufacturers specification because that insurance question "has t...
