Hi Brian
The older XJ6's with the XK engine 68 up to 85 or 86 I think. I'm sure I've seen something on these running on LPG. Sorry can't remember when or who.

Re: LPG on a small saloon ie MkII
Hi Brian
I think I saw reference years ago to people with XJ6's using LPG, might be worth putting up a post on the XJ6 forum to see if any of them are using LPG!

Re: mk 2 uprated cooling fan
Hi Jim I run my original mechanical fan along with an electric fan controlled by an adjustable thermostatic switch. The mechanical fan in normal traffic conditions works fine and only in traffic jams on a warm day do I ever hear the electric fan trip in. As you say check out the temperature gauge as...

Re: Rear axle ratio
Hi Alec There were not any standard Mk2 axle ratio's at 3.31. Barry As your increasing the ratio, your probably not going to be "burning it off the light" so paying the extra for a power-loc would be a waste of money. I don't have any books here with me at the moment, but from memory series 2 XJ com...

Re: Rear axle ratio
Hi Barry
In answer to your questions: Yes 1st and 2nd are usable. No not all XJ's have 3.31 axles, can't remember which ones at the moment and I'm traveling. I'll see if I can dig up the ones to look out for.

Re: Rear axle ratio
Hi Barry As Brian said changing to a 3.54 axle ratio will help. I run a 3.31 ratio axle with my 5 speed and find it fine reading 2500 RPM at just a tad over 70 and can still run in 5th at 50/55, which is about where modern cars change into top. To do this change you need to get a crown and pinion ge...

Hi
The 340 had the later plastic bottle with the pump mounted on top which were a great improvement over the original glass bottle ones. Your 340 pump should throw water up the screen if working correctly.

Re: Low Fuel Light
Hi
Just for information, over the years on my car the low fuel light comes on with around 25 miles left in the tank.

Re: Fuel Tank
Hi Barry
It could also be the cork gasket between the level gauge and tank which is leaking. Either way you need to drop the tank to make the fix.

Hi
The later cars had a CV drive which used nylon balls, sorry can't get my mind working to give a better description.

Hi
If your any good on the electronics or know someone who can help, then I'd keep it on the injection system. As for the rest your imagination and pocket are the controllers.
Look forward to read/hearing more.

Re: Cooling with electric fans
Hi Dave I follow Brian, in that my Mk2 is modified, although I don't have an expansion tank! Once in a while I top off the water and it should be 3/4 to 1 litre (this is dependent on what the ambient temperature was when last out) never had any issues since rebuilt in 99 and been all over the place....

Re: Engine Numbers
Hi 240 & 340 engines had alloy sumps as did the S type but the filter housing was angled as Brian pointed out. Greg needs to clean the area next to the filter housing where the engine serial number is stamped, they were stamped on not cast and the number show is as was pointed out a casting number. ...

Re: Cooling with electric fans
Hi As I've posted before on here, I run the original fan and also have a Kenlowe installed which is thermostatically controlled. Under normal driving the original system works fine, but make sure to address all the valid points in Brian's post. Only time I hear the kenlowe switch on is when stuck in...
