The Jaguar handbook specifically states you DO NOT mix different brands or sizes on the same axle.

Don't be afraid to try ebay for part worn tyres. I got a pair of Dunlop Sport Maxx 285/30/20s last year with 7mm tread in near perfect state for just over £200 the pair!

I don't suppose you could provide a link to this advice as I didn't imagine clearance was that tight (but I am a complete novice admittedly!)

Has anyone had any experience of using snow chains on an XK8?

I am reluctant to spend £430 per tyre for winter tyres, so considering chains instead.
My rear wheels are 20" Detroits.

Tyre size is 285/30 20 97Y's.

Looking forward to any advice.

I'd agree.. my 2002 XK8 4.0litre has the latest tensioners fitted according to the local main stealer. I'm pretty sure the XKRs were fitted with the newer tensioners before the XK8s, so that would cover yours.

You can just phone the main dealer with the VIN number to be sure.

P-Zeros at £215 per tyre and Dunlops at £268 per tyre (mine are 285/30/20/99y)

I am about to get new rears for my XK8, and at the moment, surprisingly P-Zeros are actually considerably cheaper than Dunlop Sport Maxx's.

Found the fuse by pure chance! Left side of engine bay, 10 amp. It had obviously blown when the original compressor gave up the ghost. Replaced fuse and we're cool again!

Funnily enough, my rear light also is loose. I think it was initially held in place by some form of adhesive to the window itself. I'd be interested to hear what the repair method should be.

If it is just a 'tick tick tick', it probably isn't the chains. They are generally described as a pronounced rattle.

It is more likely to be the accessory drive belt you are hearing.
