Jaguar XF 3.0D Cam Belt Change
I sold my XF 3ltr D to my son with nearly 200k miles and we recently did a cam belt change at 210k miles (first change was done professionally). We learned a few things on the way which I thought I would share. Changing the belt is not that difficult, but there is a LOT of gubbins to remove to get a...

Re: XF Rear Suspension
Rear Tyre Wear About a year ago, the rear left tyre was severely worn on the inside edge. I had the wheel alignment checked and adjusted, replaced the tyre and now it is starting to wear much more on the inside edge again. I therefore assume some of the lower bushes are worn again (see previous post...

Rear Wheel Bearing Replacement
My XF (2010, 3ltr D, 178000 miles) has just started to make a rhythmic whirring noise which I am sure is the rear left wheel bearing. It will probably last for years, but I thought I would replace it anyway (only £50 for a new bearing kit), and its a job I have done several times in the past on prev...

Re: Interior lights doing their own thing.
Hi. All I can suggest is the obvious: check for 12v at the connector and a good earth! Good luck.

Re: Electric seat fore and aft movement - or lack of it !
Driver’s Seat Restricted Movement. My wife drove the car, then a couple of days later, I got in and pressed the memory button to move the seat back to my stored position. The seat moved back a few millimetres and stopped, well short of my normal position. The seat would move fore and aft on the swit...

Re: Restricted Performance
Hi. On the older 2.7L diesels, apparently the EGR valves used to stick causing the "Restricted Performance" warning to show. I think the next action after Googling the problem would be to connect to a diagnostics device to see what the car is recording as the cause. Good luck and let us know how you...

Re: Water in fuel warning light
Hi. I know it's a bit late, but I had this. I drained the filter into a glass jar and sure enough there were a few globules of water in the fuel. The light initially went out, but returned after a few miles. I "Googled" the problem and it seems fairly common that the sensor fails, so I replaced it a...

Re: Restricted Performance
Hi, Yes - very obvious and easy. Remove the under-tray and it’s at the front middle of the engine from memory with the air tubes for the turbo connecting to it. There is a short piston rod that connects the actuator to the valve via a rose joint. I just oiled it once nearly 4 years ago and I’ve not ...

Re: Interior lights doing their own thing.
Hi Rod,
I just used a large flat-blade screwdriver- the light unit comes out quite easily.

Re: Hesitation Pulling Away
Sounds like you are the right track with the brake issue: just a couple of times I have just pulled away, then had to brake, then almost immediately tried to pull away, and there was quite a long pause (couple of seconds) before the car accelerated. It might be something simple like the brake switch...

Boot Switch not working.
About half way through my recent Scotland tour, the exterior boot release switch stopped working. The interior boot release switch (under the dash) and the key fob boot release still worked normally. I suspected the switch itself, but research on Google etc pointed to the wiring. Although the wires ...

Re: Interior lights doing their own thing.
Further to my last post, the interior lights have behaved normally since my rectification work. I have just completed a near 2000mile tour of Scotland, including the occasional bumpy road, so I feel the lights have been fully tested and thankfully perform normally at all times now.

Re: Interior lights doing their own thing.
The light unit is quite easy to remove: just lever it out at the rear then unplug the electrical connector. I carefully prised the black plastic part from the back of the unit along with the green electronics board. I could then see 3 spring steel electrical contacts on the back of the three light l...

Re: Interior lights doing their own thing.
Hi. I have the same issue in my 10-Plate XF. According to Google, it is fairly common and is due to dirty/corroded contacts in the light unit. Apparently it is relatively easy to fix: just (carefully!) lever out the light unit, clean the electrical contacts and replace. It is also worth cleaning the...
