No cold air driver's side
Just bought 06 3 litre in time for first summer this century, but no cold air on drivers side, Fan runs OK and there is coolish air on passenger side. Is there a flap/motor somewhere I can hit? Jag system shows no aircon DTCs.

Wheel nut torque
I do not normally put any lubrication on wheel nuts, but following some corrosion issues recently I am thinking of putting some grease on. Obviously this will mean reducing the tightening torque, but I am unsure by how much, I guess perhaps 50%. Anybody got any information/ideas?

I was a bit surprised by this eats batteries thing as well. Modern ECUs go to a lot of trouble to protect the battery in prolonged shutdown, and certainly my 96 XK8 is frequently left for two to three weeks and always starts first time. I finally replaced the original Jag battery last year, when it ...

Finished job!!
Have just road tested the car after changing bearing. Not actually sorry I started but it was a close thing! A few observations for anybody else thinking of doing it themselves. There are a lot of special tools listed, mostly for the press, but the only ones I found essential were a hydraulic press,...

Hi Nik, thanks for the info. The bearing was actually changed about 30k miles ago before I got the car, so it will be interesting to see if circlips are correctly fitted. Other side has apparently never been done in 130k! As soon as I can get the tool from JEC parts I'll crack on with the job. Roger

Changing front wheel bearing 96 XK8
I am about to fit a new front wheel bearing, but have conflicting figures on the tightening torque for the abs/rotor nut. Original jag manual (96) gives 150-170 Nm, but Nigel Thorley's book suggests 220 Nm. Alldata suggest 270 - 330! Since it is probably necessary to tighten past these figures to ge...

Apologies to BB, thought if you are doing the job today I'd better butt in! The sprocket is held in place by friction, which accounts for the eye watering torque it needs. I set it by using a spring balance on the end of a one metre pipe on a conventional alan key. You need to keep the chain in tens...

Could be MAF sensor?
Have now substituted old plugs on RH bank for new ones. Have noticed old plugs are NGK BKR5EVXA 13, whereas new ones are PFR5G 13E, as per NGK website. Problem is all but solved, just a slight suggestion of uneveness. Hard to believe from state of plugs that this was the problem, could it be the new...

Thanks jagtech. I don't know what the voltage from the MAF sensor is, I got the raw data from the system and can convert it to a grams per second figure. Do you know what the conversion to/from volts is? I will try substituting plugs/coils - I have a spare coil - and see if I can sort it. Should be ...

xk8 rough idle lack of acceleration
Following upper tensioner change and service took car to Yorkshire moors for long weekend. Ran like a rocket never missing a beat, although did get interference on radio (plugs changed at service, coil?) After about 500 miles interference vanished and idle started to get progressively rougher, now k...

Coolant venting
I have just had to remove the coolant header tank on my 96 XK8 to get at a faulty HEGO sensor, so have had to top up the cooling system afterwards. I seem to recall seeing mention of two vents somwhere on top of the heads that are used to release trapped air, but can't find mention of it in the manu...

Update
Timing checked out OK - I guess you don't need to lock the crank unless you are disturbing the main chains :?: Engine was just flooded so disconnected fuel pump, dried out plugs and dribbled a bit of engine oil into the cylinders. With a freshly charged battery it started OK. Definitely worth doing ...

Interchangable tensioners?
Hi, Thanks for the very helpful post. Have just done my tensioners - replaced second generation fitted to a 96 XK8. One slight concern (since the engine won't start!) It looks as though the tensioners can go on either bank, so I have assumed that the spring loaded bit goes uppermost on the B bank (p...
