Speedo angle drive
XJ12 series 2 After some haywire behaviour by my speedo, it’s now given up altogether. Strong suspicion is that the speedo end angle drive has failed. I’m getting rotation from the speedo cable while the car is moving. The angle drive however only engages intermittently when I try spinning it by han...

Re: Mobile phone holder
I don’t use a phone holder in my X150 but in another JLR car I recently put in a dash holder by a company called Brodit. Their approach is to supply a part which is bespoke to the car model which clips into the dash. You separately buy a phone holder specific to your phone. The two parts screw toget...

Re: Series 2 Switch and dial surround refurbish
No replies to my post in ten years  I will respond myself however… Recently discovered this : https://www.amazon.co.uk/Molotow-Liquid-Chrome-Marker-Set/dp/B074JJ1YMY?th=1 Early results in touching in the missing / faded bits of “chrome” around the series 2 dials is very promising. Can recommend...

Self service
There’s an informative article in this month’s Jaguar World on servicing a 5L XKR that other owners might think worth a look. Apart from the technique for extracting the engine oil using a pump, I have only now discovered that the air filters are tucked away in the front wheel arches. Live and learn...

Re: Production numbers of run out model
Thanks Mike - sounds like the answer might be hard to find but I found your reply interesting.
As an aside, I had understood that all of the Dynamic Rs were manufactured in 2014 but all referred to as MY15.
There was presumably another MY15 XK; the R-S

Production numbers of run out model
I’m interested in how many units Jaguar produced of the XK Dynamic R. Does anyone out there know? It’s ten years this week since the run out model was announced. I know it was made in 2014, with production stopping in July that year (so effectively only half a year’s manufacture). The final one is o...

“Dechrome” of S2 dials?
Enjoyed a trip to Gaydon today for the first ever weekday breakfast meet. Poked my nose through the cabin of the last of the line XJCs and was a bit surprised to see the main instruments without the “chrome” (aka silver paint) around the rims. These ones look more like the S3 to me although I don’t ...

Re: Underseal
Assuming the Waxoyl is still in place, you’d be able to see and feel it (black, almost tar-like finish) whereas the Lanoguard I don’t think would be as evident, if at all. I’m interested in undersealing as well and am trying to choose which of these routes to go down. Would likewise be interested to...

Re: Cooling fans on more than previously
Cheers. Just bought a mini-OBD (LELink) which connects to my phone just so I can keep an eye on the coolant for the time being. Impressed at how easy it was to install this device. I picked that one as it has auto power off, as I didn’t want one which would drain the X150’s famously robust battery a...

Cooling fans on more than previously
2014 XKR Car has been laid up over the winter and back on the road from the start of April. For the first time in my period of ownership, the engine cooling fans have started coming on unexpectedly. I’ve done some local journeys since this started, monitoring coolant temperature via an Icarsoft scan...
