Just a couple of thoughts. I remember Dave Marks saying at an XK8 seminar that the multi connector on the firewall develops poor contacts due to damp (I think) and can throw up all manner of electrical problems. Not sure if it contains the circuits affecting you though. I had similar random electric...

Have you included the main connector box on the bulkhead in your cleanup? I seem to remember Dave reporting it as a common problem with corrosion in one of the seminars. Other thoughts: Check Earthing points Do a code read Maybe it's a fault in the security module immobilising the car. Try a spare k...

Update
Just to update that I've now replaced my secondary tensioners with the newer metal bodied ones. It was fairly straightforward using the tools I got from the US. I looked at the JEC tools that have seen become available and they are better quality and about the same price (and also available for hire...

Thanks Wullie. I'll keep you posted how it goes. Have got to fit a new fuel pump on a Daimler V8 250 and change the locks on the XK8 first though. Had my keys nicked on friday. Main Dealer want 770 pounds to replace all locks, keys, fit and reprogramme. It really does make the Sherrif of Nottingham ...

Am just about to do mine too. I removed the cover on RH bank to check the current tensioner. It's a replacement engine from 3y ago. The tensioner is 2nd generation. I don't plan to do the primaries as it all looks in very good condition. I've ordered and received the tools from the States because th...

Thanks Sharfrs2 I originally contacted Autoenginuity after following the discussion on Roadfly. They just sent a short reply saying my cars aren't catered for. Since then I gather they have produced a beta module and I must say the specs covered look incredible, although I suspect the features on th...

In the absence of replies, in case anyone else wants to know, the ELM327 USB interface for a laptop works with both the 1998 XK8 and the 1995 X300 4.0 Sport. It's about 70 pounds on Ebay. The XK8 socket is on the underscuttle by the door on a RHD. The software I've used with it (Scantool.net and Dig...

Scanner Recommendation for XK8
Can anyone recommend a scanner for diagnostics on the XK8 and hopefully more than just a code read (eg transmission oil temp would be nice for fluid changes). I'm thinking in terms of something laptop or pda based that's not as expensive as the Autologic! Other suggestions would be welcome though. I...

I'm quoting from jaglovers not personal experience but it appears that some aftermarket shocks don't have spherical bushes at the bottom end of the shock. This puts extra lateral load on the shock resulting in wear or fracture of the rod at the top. It's made worse by them using stiffer bushes at th...

I had the same problem and have replaced the microswitch in the motor. So far it seems to be working. The switch is 99p plus postage from farnellinone dot com XCF3 S1Z1 order code 777-1720. Time will tell if the one I've put in is up to the job. I've posted details on replacing it in the X300 sectio...

Just a bit of feedback. It seems you can do it by just dropping the rear. I'll let you know if I develop any faults from having stretched or bent anything but so far so good. Here's what I did: Tools I used Draper T40 and T55 75mm in a half inch drive adapter to undo the torx star bolts to the mount...
