Re: What replacement can I get for my 420G Radio?
I did see a period Radiomobile at a boot fair in Autumn last year. Nowadays the £40-ish Radiomobile covering Long and Medium Wave only are a sought after item commanding up to £200 in unknown working condition. The Radiomobile cartridge player (LW/MW and VHF) would fetch £600-ish (AFAICR both switch...

Re: What replacement can I get for my 420G Radio?
There was a firm down in Hastings that specialises in up-to-date tech head units that integrate into a period-looking, say Radiomobile, by stripping out its old innards. But I can't remember their name or whether today they're still in business... 8) Another method might be to use a modern head unit...

Re: Mk IX Speedo
Hi Alec... Thanks for your quick reply. I seem to remember a cream coloured cable with a thick inner in it and a sprung outer in the parts box. Perhaps that's the speedo cable? Here is pix of the instrument panel front and rear. Instrument panel front.jpg [/img] Instrument panel front.jpg And one of...

Mk IX Speedo
Restoring a 1961 Mk IX that's got a Daimler 420G 4.4L engine in it replacing the 3.8L that was original. Engine sounds sweet, and have replaced the rev counter with one that takes the pulses from the IGN coil (its got a 1-2-3 Ignition system) But what changes do I have to make to get the Speedo to w...

Re: Any Members with a Mark IX?
Welp, I'm on my third! The first was a Mk VIIM that I bought from a scrapyard when I was at uni. Confused, all those years ago, I couldn't get a non-clunking gear change out of it. Eventually, I was offered a Rover 60 in straight swap for it. A good deal, a £25 scrap yard car for a £200-worth one th...

XJ8 X308 Sub Frame bolts
Marked as "OBSOLETE" by main dealers, these "A" sub-frame bolts with some kind of special thread in High Tensile are not easy to find except via a scrappy that wants paying for taking them off and then there's no guarantee the thread's are OK and their straight! Have Bolt BH612281, nut NZ61201 (lock...

Re: 123 Ignition & Rev counter
I'm told that an impulse type rev counter can be connected to the negative of the ignition coil. If that stalls the engine then connect via a 6.8kOhm resistor to limit the load (?) But another said that doing this risks damaging the output stage of the 123 Ignition System. Is there any truth in this...

Re: Low Coolant Level Warning
Just a quick warning for anyone planning to start up their car when on the road and leaving it on tick over to full operating temperature with the heater on full and then top up (after making sure there's no bubbles seen in coolant filler). Down here in Blackheath (southeast London) loony Labour Lew...

Re: X308 ATF temp sensor?
Yes, he was referring to aftermarket Crank Sensors -- apparently has had experience of this :x Now looking for a matching gear knob with the dash. I've also had a crank sensor go on the Maserati Quattroporte with the Ferrari F136 UC 4.2 litre V8 (same engine as the Ferrari California) At 94k miles. ...

Re: X308 ATF temp sensor?
It was the Crank Sensor that was intermittently giving up when warm. Apparently new crank sensors aren't any good. So Greg put in a second hand one. And it starts first time, every time now -- even when hot BTW, is there a gearstick knob that matches the deeper colour walnut wood grain of the dash? ...

Answering my own question, there is such a thing as "adaption" Apparently it's available with AutoLogic kit.

Is there such a thing as "adaption" for a 2002 XJ8 X308 se 3.2L normally aspirated?
