Thats what i found with the JEC spanner...I took the compressor off in the end. Its a bit fiddly to get the bolts back in (1/4 turn at a time) But i would do it again rather than try a plug spanner at a bad angle.

It sounds like a spring has snapped in the look, which is letting the lock, lock and unlock, but not letting the spring push the catch down. other than a wide screwdriver, and very gently at the top of the lock, with a bit of cloth for padding behind the driver, prize it open.... other than the catc...

UP-DATE..... it wasn't the distributor cap that failed, it was one of the coils that failed. And i take it all back about cheap distributor caps, as i got one from my local jag dealership, and they DON'T stock marell any more !!

It's a bit late i know.... but i use a normal out door cover, which is soft underneath.., and a "poly tarps" from cosco. on top...The car looks as good if its been it a garage when you take the covers off... well... all most !!!

I just bought a plug spanner from JEC... i was hoping that i could take out the front two plugs on my 92 HE V12, without taking anything off. But it dosen't work !!!... it's too short (won't go down the hole far enough)... and if it did... parts of the head are in the way, so you can't turn it!!!......
