Re: Auxiliary cooling fan on 3.6
Beware of those plastic through the radiator fins type of mount. With the vibration of the fan etc they eventually rub away at the tubes in the radiator and cause it to leak. I have had this happen a couple of times and the radiator repair shop who fixed it for me says they see this all the time. Fa...

True or false?
I recently fitted the Poly bush to the steering rack as the original ones were at the end of their useful life. They certainly improve steering feel and response; especially on the motorway. There is not any additional harshness that I can detect. They are a straight forward swap. Beware there may b...
ODBII
For those of you with the AJ16 engine you can think of this as a two door XJ6 (XJ40). There is an ODBII connector under the panel in the passenger's footwell. I just purchased a reader from http://www.talktomycar.co.uk/ and can confirm it works a treat. These early system do not have as much diagnos...

Wanted Facelift Headlamps
I found that most web sites are not kept totally up to date with parts availability. My guess is that there is no direct link between the web site and the parts inventory system. I always phone to check and not bother with their web sites.
Insurance
It certainly pays to shop around. For me Adrian Flux came up trumps with 237 vs 730 renewal from my current insurer.

2000 miles
Just completed a 2000 mile trip around Europe to the Stelvio Pass and back. All this during a heat wave with temperatures in the upper 30C. The a/c worked very well when travelling roof up on the motorways. The long XJS just fits up the Stelvio but all the road is needed. The brakes over heated on t...
Poor idle
Currently on holiday in Switzerland and at an altitude of 1 mile. When the car is hot (it has been in the 30C here) it sometimes stalls at idle.
This may be due to the altitude? Or may be the idle control valve?

Door handles - early facelift
I have found that the SNG web site is not always up to date. If in doubt a quick phone call to their parts department will determine availability of the bits you want. Don't forget to order new gaskets (to head and down pipe) and down pipe studs and nuts as well.

The exhaust manifolds are most likely cracked, which is why they are blowing. Alas you will need a pair of new ones, fortunately still available. I got a set from SNG. Easy DIY job if you have a good set of spanners.

Arden XJS 2+2 Coupe.
A bit boxy, may be inspire by Volvo? Actually reminds me a bit of the old Volvo 240. I see from your signature that you have a Celebration which will have the one piece bumpers. I prefer this design over the original steel girder of the earlier cars. American legislation killed off many good cars de...

Transmission Clonk!
I replaced the steering bushes with the poly type and there is a small amount of extra vibration through the steering wheel over pot holes, drain covers etc. On the positive side the steering is more accurate. I stayed with standard Jaguar bushes every where else on the suspension.

Scotland Trip
Some great pictures. It must be the rad as my XJS 4.0 is fine in traffic in high temps. Last year while touring France we got stuck in traffic going through Sarlat in 30C. We were baking so I put the roof up and the a/c on. However the car remained cool as we crawled through the Saturday market traf...

Yes, the individual year guides are on the XJS supplement CD, JHM 1123.
This is what I was looking for. Can I get this from Jaguar Classic parts?

Head Gasket Failure - 4 litre
On my Lotus/Ford Twinc the laminated head gasket blew a couple of times so I replaced it with a composite one which is still going strong. Not sure if they do one for the Jag though.
Of course what works for the Lotus twinc may not work for the Jag. However they are a good quality product.
