Re: Transmission swap.
Yep did the swap on my series 2 xj a few years back. The fifth gear drops the revs nicely when at 70mph so no need to change the diff ratio. As already mentioned you need a manual pedal box. The speedo drive on the series 3 manual box is the opposite side of the series 2 auto box. So you need a long...

Re: Fitting stagered 20” xf wheels
It doesn't matter how shiny your wheels are, the average speed cameras will get you every time.
Your choice.

You are correct it is my choice and to remind you my thread was about fitment not rolling radius.

Re: Fitting stagered 20” xf wheels
How does it affect the speedo reading? It is fine if your speedo over-reads, it is illegal if it under-reads. Subtle differences in rolling diameters can have a marked effect, especially when 1 mph can cost you your licence. I knew someone would mention that. To be honest it’s illegal to drive with...

Re: Advice on which X-Type to get
Find a 2.1 v6 petrol. No awd to worry about. No diesel dpf filter to worry about. Just makes a good diy car then with just the usual rust to watch out for as per most cars of similar age.

Re: Wheel Studs
Most wheel studs are a press in fit into the hub. To stop them turning when tightening up the wheel nut is a splined portion on the back of the stud.
To remove a stud a couple of taps with a 2lb mallet should knock it out.
No magic holding them in.

Re: Fitting stagered 20” xf wheels
As a bit of an update for any future person reading, the Xfr 9.5jx20 et66 rear wheels fit the s type lovely even with 285 30 r20 tyres fitted and really set the car off Jaguar factory style. Matching style front wheels fitted with 245 35 r20 complete the staggered look. Currently no pictures as I’ve...

Re: Smaller supercharger pulley
Rob, One can fit the 6% pulley in situ without any machining. I have fitted that on my Jaguar 4.2-engined Range Rover. It's only when you go up to the 10% pulley that it requires any necessary machining of the snout. Good luck Paul Thank you, I was thinking the 10% pulley. For the extra effort I mi...

Re: Smaller supercharger pulley
Thanks for the reply, seems the snout of the charger is removed to machine it to size. So I’ll do that while the car is waiting for the salt to disappear from the roads.
Bit of satisfaction when I do the machining myself

Active dampers, s type same as xf?
Evening I’m looking at replacing the active dampers as they are 20+ years old now. Would I be correct in that the x250 xf uses the same damper units as it’s based on the s type floor pan? Reason I ask is they are cheaper to buy and look on the exterior exactly the same as the s type version. Anyone ...

Re: Cylinder Head Porosity
Rob, I disagree, how can removing the head show you anything as it is hollow. Porosity is a term used but I think that this is a casting fault, which has developed enough to start a small leak? Alec Removing the head allows you to thoroughly determine the issue as it can be stripped and tested. Loo...

Smaller supercharger pulley
Evening
Anyone have experience fitting a smaller supercharger pulley?
Wondering if it’s doable with the charger fitted to the engine or best to remove the charger from the engine?
Cheers
Rob

Re: Cylinder Head Porosity
Sometimes the cause of the porous head is that previous owners may have not kept the correct coolant mix for the engine. That takes a while for an issue to arise. Most things can be repaired but it’s at cost unfortunately. The problem you have is coolant is exiting from the areas shown. You need to ...

I would imagine shorter springs and dampers on the front and a packer to space the rear axle above the leaf spring

Re: Rusty wheel arch / quarter panels
Crumbs - that is a deep restoration! It’s taken a while, what with being made redundant, covid shutdowns, new job, other life stuff lol nearly 5 years but not far now. I bet you can't wait to drive it again. I think the XJC is the nicest looking Jaguar ever made. As rare as rocking horse stuff! It ...
