Thanks both.
Mike, no hissing or odd noises from the back or petrol tank. The car has had a petrol filter change but nothing else - still original pump
Astro, interesting. This gives me somewhere to look. Any ideas why this might only be a problem when very hot?

Petrol smell in cabin when hot
I've a 1998 4.0 XK8 which I've had from new and has done 56k miles. I've noticed that in the last year or so, when in slow moving traffic on a hot day (which we seem to be having more of these days!) there's a smell of petrol in the cabin. I believe the engine temp is ok (I've fitted a Real Gauge mo...

Windscreen rubber gasket
Apologies if I'm using the wrong terminology. Over the last couple of years, the rubber gasket/seal (not sure what the correct term for this part is) that sits between the windscreen glass and the surrounding finisher (the one painted Dorchester Grey) has been shrinking such that it's straight-linin...

Rear bumper cover variations
I've cracked my rear bumper cover on my 1998 XK8 coupe. Original part number is HJA6586BBXXX. Searching for a decent donor replacement I've found someone selling a 'new' (still boxed, unpainted) HJE6586ACXXX which is the bumper cover for '01-'03 model years. Does anyone know if there are any signifi...

Re: Beats at idle after serpentine belt and tensioner change
They were OEM components, though I can't speak to whether the job was done properly other than to say I hope so since that's what I paid for! Nothing looks obviously displaced, no warning lights, and the car runs fine when moving. I can't tell if the vibration is still there under motion due to the ...

Paint/body shop in west London?
[apologies - this post ought possibly to have been in the General sub-forum] Hi all, Can anyone recommend a good paint/body shop in west London that I can trust my beloved ‘98 XK8 to? I’ve a couple of small jobs that will be a trifle for a good professional, but I don’t want to find one by trial and...

Beats at idle after serpentine belt and tensioner change
So, when I say “beats”, I mean the effect when you have two similar but slightly mismatched frequencies that interfere to give a new vibration at the interference frequency. My ‘98 XK8 recently had a serpentine belt and tensioner change. Was silky smooth before - changed belt due to age. But now, wh...

Re: Glazing clips and finishers
Ah, I've understood now! I hadn't appreciated that the finishers are secured effectively by a bead which is held by friction into a U-shaped channel. I found this video which really helped (in case useful to anyone else!): https://youtu.be/OujyT-ZQS_w

Re: Glazing clips and finishers
One more question - should I be levering from above/outside or below/inside? (Does it make any difference?)
Thanks

Glazing clips and finishers
I'm planning to start repairing the bubbling paint on my window finishers (front windscreen and rear window). I also need to give the rear quarter finishers some attention. I understand the tricky bit with these are the clips which tend to break at the point of removal. So I'm going to get some new ...

Re: R17 P Zero's no longer made
Brilliant - thank you for the tip Lucky - I've spoken to Gareth and he's managed to find me some young "over age" stock, so I can keep Macavity on his originally specified shoes for a little while longer!
Thanks again

R17 P Zero's no longer made
I've a 1998 XK8 with 17inch wheels, and Pirelli P Zero Asimmetrico 245/50 99Y all round. However the rears are now 14 years old (the fronts were replaced less than 10 years ago) and I know I should replace them. However Pirelli no longer make the tyre in this size and I can't find any NOS. I've been...
