Re: 2000 XK8 Tyre advice
Thanks both for the advice - very informative and thought provoking. I'm of the mind to replace the rears with the same brand as the front and I'll probably contact Vredstein customer services to see which they recommend as I was happy with this brand on the car when I purchased it and how they perf...

2000 XK8 Tyre advice
Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice on rear tyres. I have 245/45 R18 on the front and 255/45 R18 on the rear with Vredstein Sessanta's on the front which are excellent and when I bought the car it had Vredstein's (not sure of the model) on the rear and the car handled beautifully. It failed the...

Re: X150 Start Up Smoke
Hi there. I can't comment directly on this engine, however over many years of DIY experience I've found that if engines aren't used, the seals do harden and lose their ability to retain fluids/lubricants effectively. From your description I would agree with your diagnosis of faulty valve stem oil se...

Re: Restricted performance mode
Thanks Andy. I've replaced the coil pack on N0.3 as suggested and the car runs beautifully again. I cleared the codes using my reader and none have re-appeared. I think it may be prudent to change the others also as if 1 has gone down suddenly the others can't be far off (113K on the clock). I've pr...

Restricted performance mode
Hi I have a really frustrating fault that's suddenly appeared on my 2000 XK8 (normally aspirated), It's been laid up for approx. 9 months and has been connected to a battery conditioner the whole time. I recently had the gearbox overhauled and the car started and drove well at first though went into...

Re: fuel consumption
Took my 3.6 xjs to Gleneagles last year and we managed 32mpg each way - all motorway though!

Re: Handbrake adjusters - Inboard brakes
Evening all. Managed to remove the handbrake calipers today and look what I found! The loud 'thump' was the material detaching itself bit by bit from the back plate whilst releasing its grip from the disc. These pads have only covered 400 miles since they were fitted so I'm not at all impressed with...

Re: Handbrake adjusters - Inboard brakes
That's great advice from you all - thank you. I've just checked all the springs are present/taught and re-adjusted the cable but still the problem occurs. I also found a small piece of pad lining on the floor tonight which suggests that one of the pads may have pulled/partly pulled off its backing. ...

Handbrake adjusters - Inboard brakes
Hi, I have an issue with auto adjusters (I think) on the inboard brakes. I've set them up as per the manual and when in the air, the handbrakes locks the rear wheels solid at 6 to 7 clicks of the handbrake. All was fine until I lowered the car and apply the handbrake with the car on the ground and s...

Re: XJ-SC V12 Rough Running Problem
Forgot to add, you say the fuel pump is noisy when it happens - possibly down to fuel starvation? You've checked for sediment so this could be down to fuel lines collapsing internally when trying to draw fuel through in larger volumes say when going up hills! This happened on my old Scimitar SE5A an...

Re: XJ-SC V12 Rough Running Problem
Hi Reading your notes it seems remarkably similar to the problem I was having with my 3.6 XJ-S (see AJ6 misfire thread). Granted the engines are different, but check the screws holding the amplifier are tight and if it's on a mounting plate (aluminium?) that the securing bolts are making a good eart...

Re: AJ6 misfire
Update on the misfire: Swapped the ignition module back for the original tonight and noticed that the screws were not fully tight - I assumed they just held it in place. So, cleaned up the aluminium back plate and retaining bolts and applied a thin smear of copper grease. Did the same for the mounti...

Re: AJ6 misfire
Hi Tried changing the temp sensor which didn't work, then tried the ignition amplifier which I thought had cured it but the problem soon came back again. Took the plunge and bought a crank position sensor which I hope will cure it. Incidently, I got this from Jaguar - a genuine part for less than a ...

Re: AJ6 misfire
Thanks for the advice Pop - my car is the later model as you suggested. I tried the spark plug as below today but got no joy so I think the next option is to check the fuel pressure. As a precaution I'm going to change the coolant temperature sensor, ignition amplifier and crank position sensor (as ...
