Re: Matching clutch hydraulic parts/ pushrod dimensions
I wondered if Alec and James had anything to add after 4 years. The clutch on my car started getting very hot and refusing to disengage. I discovered the flexible rubber section had started to leak more and more. Anyway that will be replaced in the next few days. I am torn whether to set up the 1/16...

Re: Green-purple wire to stoplamps
I found the remaining bullet connector around the A-pillar / dashboard. I had hoped to just replace the bullet connector but the wire to the brake switch was the problem.

Re: Green-purple wire to stoplamps
Thanks Mike, the manual does show that the loom goes down the RHS of the car https://jec.org.uk/forums/download/file.php?mode=view&id=11598 I have looked behind RH boot panel and only found the splitter bullet connector. I will have a look behind the RH footwell panel and maybe under the RH treadpla...

Re: No Oil Pressure
Screenshot 2024-09-10 121622.jpg I managed to connect a tyre inflator to the sender and set the regulator at 40psi. The gauge read less than 30psi. This keeps the wiring, voltage stabiliser etc in circuit. I later bought a Y-connector and fitted a mechanical gauge down inside the engine compartment...

Re: Ride height Mk2 / bottom wishbone bushes
Hi, this is not about ride height but about replacing the bottom wishbone bushes. I am hoping the same respondents would read this. my problem. The front suspension was rebuilt in 1997. Not many miles ago. All 4 lower wishbone bushes have suddenly broken up. The rubber looks pristine and might be PU...

Idle speed with HD6 carbs
This isn't a new topic but the existing posts are 4 or 5 years old. The idle speed could not be brought below 1600rpm. I confess the thread on the rear slow running screw had suffered, been replaced and the thread in the body re-tapped. Because the thread was iffy, I had experimented with weaker spr...

Re: Oil pressure - falls away
I fitted a splitter and a mechanical gauge. For me it is enough to know that the one on the dash reads half what it should do. It would seem a bit dodgy to fir a mechanical gauge with its capillary tube in the fold down dash arrangement. Or am I misunderstanding something? I am also not sure about c...

Re: Sump removal with engine in place?
Thanks Alec, I have considered lowering the subframe but that would be new territory for me. It might be more straightforward to take the engine and gearbox out........ again! I was hoping that there might have been something behind the Haynes statement on what was possible with the engine in the ca...

Sump removal with engine in place?
The Haynes manual says it is possible but the consensus seems to be that the engine should come out. I have had the engine out of the car and put it back. The engine has since refused to turn. I decided to investigate with the engine in the car. I had to remove the sump and cylinder head, in order t...

Re: inlet valve diameter
Thanks Alec, There does seem to be a demand for all sorts of valves with minor differences. I was looking at http://www.gsvalves.co.uk/assets/race-engine-components-catalogue.pdf More generally on the internet, there seems to be a few around at 47.7 / 1.878". I would be OK with removing a bit of the...

inlet valve diameter
The previous owner of my 65 mk2 3.4 had larger size inlet valve fitted. I have bent one of them during assembly. I am hoping everything else is OK. I was told at one time they were from an XJ6. I have got myself tied in knots on the searches. The valves have a head diameter of 1.855" and I believe t...
