I was only joking with the "dark side" comment! ......... however true it is!

Looks like a genuinely nice car, congrats on the purchase.

The last Merc I was in was yellow and had TAXI on the roof, but even in Germany most of them are Skodas now. What is the world coming to?

Hello everyone,

For a while there I honestly thought it was dead for good!...

Glad to see that it was not the case.

A big thank you to all those involved.

PS. DH. what are you driving now, I heard you had gone over to the dark (Merc) side?

It has been viewed enough that I think if anyone did know a reliable supply, they would have posted. My experience with recon starter motors is that it is a bit of a lottery, some go on for years where as others from the same supplier hardly make it out of warranty. As you probably know the solenoid...

FF14 is the trouble code for the coolant temperature sensor. To trigger this the voltage has to be outside the 0-5V range. It should read about 3.5V with the engine cold and 0.75V at running temperature. Even with this it sould trun over, and would eventually start. If the clicking is the starter mo...

The panting noise is almost definately the control circuit for the blower motor, which is in the fan casing for cooling. One of the zener diodes on the circuit board goes open ciruit and the feedback loop is broken, so the fan (there are two) will puff every ten seconds or so. The lack of cool air c...

To get it out you have to hold or chock the bottom flap open (it closes the top flap).

Fun isn't it?

Also I thought there was three bolts holding it in?, I definately removed the dials(drivers side) and glovebox (pssenger side) for access.

It is under the "ski slope" on the transmission tunnel, its a bit of a faff getting at/finding all the screws that hol the veneer down, but it's underneath it.

P.S I dont think your VIN is right, I think they start at about 139000. (But don't quote me on that!)

Several people got back to me today and it seems as if everyone has them but they are not advertised - how odd?

SNG, David Manners and Jaguar Classic parts all say they are not available over their websites but they can be ordered by email or telephone.

Does anyone knowo why?

Definately a "How not to" video! Hitting bearings is definately a no no, they can and do fracture shooting little bits of metal everywhere. I also like holding the dial gauge dowm with gaffer tape - nice! And pack the bearings with grease before fitting! This video also shows why people put so much ...

This old chestnut...........

Part number DAC7674 (JLM11618)
I could have sworn these were available new again but apparently not.

I need an offside headlamp, apart from ringing around the breakers Monday morning does anyone have any ideas?

Welcome Martin

P.S I have and xj6 in topaz and the guys at work call it "British Racing Gold"!, which is only slightly better than "Metallic Beige" as they used to call it.

Well I finally took a day off work to do this so I thought I would report back. Lesson #1 REMOVE THE SUBFRAME! I didn't and EVERY bolt was a struggle to access. The bottom bolt had to come out of the hub carrier to give enough movement in the driveshaft to undo the bolts to the output shaft 1/12th o...

mrb39 I would disagree that inboard brakes are a bad idea. They are a good idea implemented badly! What the inboard brakes really need is an access hatch under the rear seats, a la old Triumphs, but I sure as hell was not going to cut one! (Without the rear subframe there is not alot of car there an...

Point taken almcl, and there are plenty of cars driving around with copper brake lines with no problems at all but......... Total brake failiure as happened to me in my XR2 (shame!) years ago is proper scary and probably the worst hundred yards I have ever driven on the road. (It is still etched in ...

Reading back though this thread, it seems like the official Jaguar line is that the normal temperature is pretty much anywhere on the gauge. Surely that can't be right?! Tell that to a V12 owner, it will let go before it ever gets near "H"! I recently replaced my thermostat again after the needle ke...
