Reluctant Getaway
Hello all, Having solved my recent no-start problem (ECU), my wonderful XJS 4.0 has moved on to its next problem. Pulling away in first gear when its been started from cold, it will on about 50% of occasions lose power and only just manage not to stall. This problem is worse and much more obvious th...

Non-starting AJ16
I'd be grateful to anyone with a view on the root cause of my latest mechanical gremlin... I have a 1994 4.OL which is turning over but won't fire. Inspection under the bonnet reveals no spark to the plugs, and no positive feed to what I call the distributer but which I know isn't called that. My in...

Paul - tried to send a PM, but not sure if it went through. Let me know if you've not received anything.

Full Beam Problem
Thanks to all for your responses.
I believe that it may be the case that both the dipped and main beam stay on if I'm manually holding the stork. When the car's cold though, it acts completely as it should, with only the main beams activated.

Full Beam Problem
Hi DH. Thanks for getting back to me. To answer your question "If full beam comes on and stays on when held in the correct position... then I assume it is working in "Flash" mode ie stalk pulled fully towards you" This is correct. I can pull back the stork to flash the headlights. I can also hold th...

Full Beam Problem
Hi all. I cannot get the main beam headlights on my 4.0ltr to stay on. All the lights work just fine, and the full beams will come on if I physically hold the indicator stork in the correct position, however as soon as I let go they dip again. When the car is cold (ie only just started up), the norm...

Paint Chips & Scratches
The scratches are deep, in to the paint itslef.
To be honest, I'm not too concerned with matching the paint colour exactly, more worried about preventing any further damage. The car's not concourse, you have to be realistic about these things.

Paint Chips & Scratches
Hi all, I have a couple of reasonably deep and very obvious scratches (courtesy of airport parking - be warned) on the passenger door of my Kingfisher Blue 4.0 coupe. I was wandering what you would recommend, short of a trip to a specialist, for touching them up and preventing any further damage? Th...

Idle Problem
Hi all. In the past week I've started to encounter a rather strange and un-nerving problem which I assume to be gearbox related. The car is fine from cold, engaging gears in good time, and generally behaving as I'd expect, although I do on occasion suffer from a jerk on upshift from 1st to 2nd which...

Same Old Temp Gauge Problem - Different Cause???
All, Following a drastic loss of coolant traced to corrosion, I've just had my '94 4.0 AJ16 radiator re-cored. No problems there. Prior to this work being carried out, the temp gauge had always responded well from cold, and always sat at "N" once warm (something of a luxury judging by some of the ot...
