Re: Wheel centres
SNG Barratt are generally a good place to go to for X-type spares. They have done all the hard work sourcing quality aftermarket parts that they are prepared to sell. Occasionally I have to look father afield for an item - even Rock Auto in the USA - but for most things SNG compare well or better th...

Re: XK8 Restricted performance message and system Too Lean
Hi, I agree with spending more time on proving there are no cracks or air ingress. Build your own smoke machine - I will look into that!

XK8 Restricted performance message and system Too Lean
Hi, - on behalf of another member with a 2000 4.0 XK8 I am receiving fault codes P0171 System too lean (Bank1), P0174 System too lean (Bank 2) and Restricted Performance message. I have had the car's fault codes read and reset by a garage several times and so far the actions taken include: - Inspect...

Re: Boot locked
Hi Eddie, That is a real nuisance but there is a solution though it does require a fair bit of effort and the back seats do have to come out. There is an excellent YouTube video by HatBoyHarvey titled "Jaguar X-type boot wont open" where he demonstrates how to gain access to the lock and open the bo...

Re: Parking Sensors
Hi Nick, That is great to hear another X-type has found a good home, please add it to the X-type register by emailing me for a form. I don't think I have seen anyone with aftermarket parking sensors on an X-type, it was a very popular fitment from new which may explain it. I wonder if it is in fact ...

Re: XJ40 Won't Start
If its been off the road for years how old is the petrol? Stale petrol can cause all manner of problems with filters, pumps, injectors and poor running. If the petrol is the cause it may require a tank flush and all the system cleaning / renewing. Hopefully it may just be a change of spark plugs to ...

Re: Head liner required
Hi Bob, I previously included information in the magazine on a members headliner replacement. This was retrimmed rather than replaced with a complete new one. In his case it was a saloon. Also, I don't think I have your car included in the register, please email me on xtype@jecmodels.org.uk if you w...

Re: 2008 type 2.2 dof
The X-type can be an extremely well equipped car depending on the specification. There is an option with the facelift model for a more sporty look and feel, or go for a luxury model. It depends what you want from a Jaguar. Check everything works. What spec is the car you are looking at? I would star...
Re: JagDroid
Hi Jagdroid has been around for a while now and mentioned quite often on forums elsewhere. I have no personal experience or other members correspondence to give you greater confidence on its capabilities, but I have not heard anything negative either. If you go ahead I would dearly love to publish y...

Re: 1970’s XJ Whites
I have a white S1 XJ. From the JDHT certificate the date of manufacture was 31/12/69 and the paint colour is Cream ICI code 3100. After struggling to have paint mixed to that code some years ago, the car received paint repairs using OEW cellulose from a paint factors in Derby, which is a lighter sha...

Re: Tailgate window gas struts
Gas strut changeout completed this morning. It was just as the guide advised and the headliner drops sufficiently to access the ball and socket on the far end of the strut. You do have to work sight unseen and not bend the headliner more than necessary. With the tricky ones out of the way I will now...

Re: Tailgate window gas struts
Paul,
That is so helpful, not only is it a step by step but it confirms there isn't another easier way. New struts should be delivered from SNG tomorrow so armed with this info I will give it a go and the bonus is I will have the material for an X-type section article!

Tailgate window gas struts
Hi, I need to replace the gas struts that hold the tailgate window open. Can anyone advise the best way to gain access to these struts as they are hidden by the roof lining. Trying to avoid damaging the lining or breaking clips etc.
Thanks
