new tyres for a 1990 XJS
Last time I bought tyres was Dec 2006 (Tyreland, Southampton, £110 fitted). I need some more now, but find the Pirelli P600's tend to 'tramline' somewhat. Maybe I'm fussy, but are there any better replacements?

Headlamp Buzzer
Thanks; I'll give it a go; my dash light dimmer could do with replacing anyhow.

Headlamp Buzzer
Whilst peanut packets warning us that they "may contain nuts" is one of the less attractive aspects of our nanny state, I would welcome a "you've left your headlamps on" warning buzzer on my 1990 3.6.
Are there any kits or simple solutions out there?

Burning smell coming from near compressor!!!!
>> I gave the job to my local air con specialists to fit and commission << If you don't mind me asking, how much? I'm being quoted labour of £180 to £240 for the compressor, receiver dryer, R134a valves and re-gas. Compressors seem to be around the £200 mark, as you say. I note from http://www.sngba...

Air conditioning refrigerants - The facts, not the myths.
I've got a siezed compressor and so am going about getting it fixed. Being an R12 system, I've got to address that too. Having read this, R49 seemed to be the answer, but neither of the two local air con specialists knew about R49 and my local Jag dealer has "never done an R12 -> R134a conversion". ...

Thanks. Just looked and it's totally solid.
Any idea what make / model and where to buy from would be best?

Aircon compressor
Yesterday I noticed that the aircon temperature wasn't as cold as usual. Then there was a slight rubber burning smell. Then a squealing of rubber. Then a smouldering broken rubber belt in my rear view mirror bouncing along the M3. The belt to the aircon compressor had come off. Either I'm lucky and ...

Car Phone Aerial Removal
Thanks for that. I've just used an adaptation of the fishing line method (with steel wire instead) and prised gently with a screwdriver. No worries - ta.

Car Phone Aerial Removal
Many years ago, my XJS obviously had a car phone fitted. Pretty much all that remains is a little aerial seemingly glued to the rear windscreen. It's in two parts with one part stuck to the outside of the glass and one part on the inside. How do I remove this without breaking the glass (and with lea...

I dream of having a key fob. That's log gone. A buzzer to tell me that I've left the lights on is something that the boyz in Coventry forgot too. Back on topic ... previously when I turned the key in either door, the other door and boot unlocked/locked, but now it doesn't. I do have an alarm ... it ...

Central Locking
I changed the battery the other day. Now the central locking doesn't work. Anyone know if it needs reseting or something? BTW: The Halfords HCB075 "Calcium Technology" 4 year guarantee battery (£70) was too large at the top for the battery clamp. Swapped it for a HB075 3 year guarantee one (£60) and...

Rear Seats and Children
The new booster seat law apparently doesn't apply in "some 2 + 2 sports cars or convertibles have small rear seats" because they "are certified to UN ECE 44.03 type approval standards" http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/campaigns/childcarseats/childcarseats.htm#14. Does this apply to the XJS? I suspe...
