I would say starting with the valve stem seals is going in a bit deep for a first stab! They don't commonly fail, especially at that mileage! I would start with something simpler and easier to access and that would be the Full Load Breather pipework on the passenger side cylinder head of the engine...

I realize that I am coming to this Thread long after the issue has probably been resolved. However, it sounds from the amount of water coming in, far more likely that the culprit is the scuttle drain pipe has come off its elastic band!
