FYI you can hold down the APB switch whilst turning the ignition off & the parking brake will not engage however to enable you to select N in the gearbox then as you say, position 1 on the ignition switch has to be selected.

I have a 2002 S Type 3.0 V6 SE Auto & have recently replaced front & rear brake pads also the brake fluid. Only issue arising was the nsr parking brake was extremely hard to wind back in (compared to the osr) to create enough space for the new thicker pads. For both i used the proper propriatory too...

We send satellites to Mars without any issues so surely there is a simple & inexpensive solution out there for my in-car tv
