Many thanks for your reply and your thoughts.
In the end I got cold feet and didn't buy it.

Re: Should I be looking at an XJS with a mileage of over 200,000?
David, Yes, you are reading correctly. The body is pretty good. The seller is a reputable garage specialising in classic cars. But as you say I would be paying someone else to maintain it, and it could be a drain on my finances. Thank you for taking the time to reply. I really appreciate your insigh...

Re: Should I be looking at an XJS with a mileage of over 200,000?
Thank you very much indeed.
I believe it was driven between London at Scotland regularly over a long period. It may not have been used for a while.
I'm completely un-mechanical so this is all very good to know.
Kind regards,
Edward

Should I be looking at an XJS with a mileage of over 200,000?
By chance I saw an unrestored XJS 4 litre with a mileage of over 200,000. Rust is not a problem. I'm very tempted, but should I even be considering a car with a mileage this high? My S Type has just failed its MoT very badly so I am looking for consolation.

Re: Sill repair panels.
My 2003 S-Type Sport 3 litre manual has just failed its MOT because of severe corrosion to the sills. I was not expecting this. (!) Today I visited a number of repair shops who specialise in classic and sports car restoration and they all said - very politely - that getting it repaired would be cost...

Re: XK8 ABS warning and
David, You were absolutely right. I drove the car home and the following day all the warning lights had gone off. The lights did come on again one more time, but I drove the car up to Harris from Edinburgh and back down again, and everything was absolutely fine. So, for me, as a new owner of an XK8,...

Re: XK8 ABS warning and
Dear David, I'm enormously re-assured by your kind words. What you say makes sense. I had a very bad feeling about the garage. I do think they were economical with the truth. They knew something was wrong but they did not tell me. Thank you again, I am extremely grateful and permitting myself to fee...

XK8 ABS warning and
Took my XK8 to have a spare key programmed at a Jaguar Dealer in Edinburgh. When I got the car back the ABS warning light was on, and also 2 messages, TRAC not Available and ASC not available. The garage did not say anything to me, which made me very suspicious. Could this be an intermittent fault? ...
