Re: My 3.6 restoration
Nice one buddy, Wow 12 months!!!!!! My 3.6 took me 8 years and Im still not happy with it. I fell out of love with it last year, then moved house so she has sat in the garage since her last MOT. Decided to lift the covers on her a couple of weeks ago http://i1111.photobucket.com/albums/h476/jonc3725...

Re: Throttle pot for early 3.6
Paul, That sounds like a very good alternative mate :D . Why did we pick car packed with Lucas electronics :( . RS dont have any in stock at the moment but I am going to order on back order. At that price i dont mind playing with it and making up an adaptor to make it fit. I did not fancy doing it w...

Re: Throttle pot for early 3.6
Cheers for the reply mate. I think that part number is for the the newer version which is the one I was going to try and fit to my throttle body. I was hoping somebody had fitted one to an early XJS before i spent out and found it does not work. I have read about the repairs in the XJS bible but my ...

Throttle pot for early 3.6
My throttle pot looks goosed. I have taken it to bits and the tracks are worn through. AJ6 dont do their kits anymore so I was wondering if anybody out there has fitted a different TPS to their early XJS's. Does the newer (post 86) red TPS fit to the earlier throttle bodies? Would another make of TP...

Re: cold start
No it's defo the switch. I have swung through it (in accordance with the maint manual) and it's way out. If I remember rightly it finishes switching at 36 degrees C coolant temp but it's not operating at all. Even with coolant temp of 20 degrees the cold start should operate for a couple of seconds ...

Re: Rusty Wheel Arch - best solution
If anybody is interested I have two sections of half panels which go from the B post to the rear lights. I bought them to repair the tin worm on the rear quarter panel particularly on the return bend behind the rear bunpers as mine were rotten on both sides  . The panels still have the pressing...

cold start
My Thermotime switch has gone duff which means the car starts but runs like a bag of spanners until the coolant temp rises. I have tried all the suppliers (including Jaguar) and no one supplies this part at the moment. The switch is the same on all pre 86 3.6's and and all V12's up to 89 I think. I ...

Re: CHANGING HEADLAMP BULBS
Remove the front splash guards under the wings which will give you access to the rear of the lights through a hole in the rear of the headlamp housing.
Hope this helps

gob smacked!!!!!!
I am an XJS owner and not an XK8 owner but just had to visit the XK8 bulletin board. A colleague of mine owns a 98 XK8 and I was absolutely floored when he told me he had to weld his floor pan at the front end of the passenger side floor as it failed MOT!!!! The corrosion point was in exactl...

Good news BB,
I think the front and rear suspension rebuilds were the most satisfying part of the restoration

YYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS :D Problem solved. I have spent months trying to find the problem, checking all the following and finding small snags on the way: 1. Fuel system 2. Ignition system 3. Fuel injection system 4. ECU information systems. 5. Engine components. After checking all th...

Rusty Wheel Arch - best solution
bigman, Cant help with the body shop in Surrey but I replaced mine on both sides. When I did the repairs I used weld through primer and sealed all seams and open edges. All I can recommend is to make sure you get waxoyl or similar right into the panel nooks and crannies in the boot over the top of t...
