Engine wont fire
Just a thought.. I don't think fuel pump(s) are supposed to run until the engine is actually running. It's a safety thing if I remember rightly, that is if one of the injectors is leaky, it prevents the cylinder filling up with fuel. When the engine is turning, the pump should start up, it stops if ...

Luke warm air instead of hot air
Here's an interesting one. The delanair mk3 climate control all seems to be working correctly, but the heat output from vents is luke warm only. The car interior takes a long time to heat up, and there is lots of air blowing out the vents but not really warm enough. Other symptom is when the engine ...

Re: Torquatrol fan
Tested the transmitter for the temp gauge,at 8 to 10 C it measured 1500 ohms. :? That's probably the right value for '8-10 degC'. I'd expect it to be about 15-20 times the 88 degC value. The temp sensor is a 'NTC semiconductor', these have a moreorless exponential response. I wouldn't be suprised if...

Re: Torquatrol fan
<..> I think that MarkB wrote a post sometime ago about how he could set a gauge up correctly with some thermocoupling doubler... (or maybe I'm having an XJS fantasy????) Yes, that's right... I'd mentioned a gadget I've been using on my xj-s for many years. It clips onto the temperature sensor and ...

Best way of testing thermostat without taking things to bits and breaking gaskets is just point an infrared thermometer at the cylinder head and read off the degrees. They are not expensive to buy now about 20-30 UKP. When the torqa slip-thingy jams solid while you are driving, I think you'd notice ...

Sat nav speed sensing
Graeme was maybe looking for somewhere to pick up a speed signal from the revolving wheels? :-) I must admit I'm getting far too dependent on my satnav, I sometimes get lost when in tunnels, luckily I can follow the other cars and find the exit. There's a speed signal that's fed to the back of the T...

Sat nav speed sensing
Hi Patfallon a warm welcome to the forum. I'm pretty sure a satnav calculates your vehicle speed from the decoded satellite signals, coming down from 'up there'. Maybe you'd meant the lights sensing? (for night dimming) That's either of places mentioned. On my TomTom Go300, I select 'display speed' ...

Front Bumper and Valance and twin headlight conversion
Something I have done with success is rinsing out the headlight inside with warm soapy water. Serious! If the inside of the headlamp glass is also covered in a film, it can be wiped with a wipey-thing on a stick. Danger, don't wipe the silvering, but if you have to, no more than lightly with soapy s...

By the sound of that symptom, the blower unit itself. I betcha it's the 4148 diode dissolved away on the triangle shaped circuit board, part of unit. It's nearly always that. Have to remove blower to get to it. http://www.far-out.demon.co.uk/cardiy/blowrd3.htmhttp://www.far-out.demon.co.uk/cardiy/de...

Hi If this is the D Mk3 I'm familiar with, there's a good test that can be done without taking anything to bits. It's similar to the test Paul suggests, but this one eliminates the effect of the temperature control function by setting temperature to manual. Pull outwards the left temperature knob <c...

XJS Air-Con......Myths and mysteries
The SKJagtech delanair mk3 info is nicely presented and the data easy to find. There might be some inherited errors that had originated from my delanair mk3 website. If so, my apologies. A seminar I think is a good idea, but I'd say have the emphasis on diagnosis and dissassembly rather than how to ...

too rich! (unlike me)
How about enlisting help from one of those mobile 'car tune up' people that advertise in local paper? One with generic diagnosis gear and experience. Try to find an experienced person. Compression checks, ignition spark voltage, exhaust co level. The trouble with 'trying things out' in diy-mode is t...

Full Beam Problem
Hi When you say 'I can make full beam come on', is that in actual fact full beam being added to the dip beam? (full and dip on together) If so, (and if is the same setup as the earlier xj-s), there' a changeover relay behind the NS headlamp. If so I would also expect that it could stick on full beam...
