Re: Daimler bonnet badge
The answer would appear to be 'no'. There's at least two versions: From above they look identical but from below the stud holes for the bolts to enter are at different lengths along the base. The one for the 420 needs stud holes at each end of the casting, whereas on the other version, the stud hole...

Daimler bonnet badge
Does anyone know if the ‘Flying D’ bonnet motif on a Daimler 420 is the same part as for the Daimler 250 please?
It’s listed as BD.30177 in the Daimler Spare Parts Catalogue but appears to have been replaced with an after-market part BD23927.

Seat repair
I put the front-seat bases put in for repairs to torn leather and badly damaged surrounding materials after they'd incurred some serious wear & tear for over 55 years of use. Both ended up being fully reconstructed using most of the original leather but with new supporting material below. After fitt...

Re: ‘Adaptive Dynamic Fault’
Update. As usual Mike, your advice was spot-on. A trip to The Jag Doctor where he plugged it in to his diagnostics showed it to be a faulty height sensor on one of the rear shocks. This was replaced and now all's fine once again. The 'turbo nutter' settings that turn it into a racing car all functio...

‘Adaptive Dynamic Fault’
‘Adaptive Dynamic Fault’ Has suddenly appeared and won’t clear on an ‘OK’ reset, the amber warning light stays on and the ‘’mode set buttons on the centre consol are disabled, when they’re used the display says the function is not available and it sets itself back to ‘standard’. I’ve fully recharged...

Sun Roof fault
My electric sun roof won’t open. The ‘lift’ mechanism on one side fails to engage and makes graunchy noises. Getting access looks to be a serious job with the headlining and possibly other fixtures being removed from the inside. If anyone’s got any knowledge or experience on this, I’d welcome input ...

Re: GPS Sat Nav
It was a failed GPS unit under the "shark's fin" on the roof. A nightmare of a job to get access to as the headlining has to be dropped and that was way out of my league not having the relevant skill set, experience or tools to complete the job. Fortunately the Jag Doctor sorted it out for me and he...

Re: GPS Sat Nav
Hiya Mike, yes, I have. I’ve tried several of the options, post codes, addresses, points of interest, etc. I’ve even tried what the SatNav thinks is ‘local’ addresses of places in Le Havre. Each attempt results in the audible response ‘the route is being calculated’ but the display immediately rever...

GPS Sat Nav
The SatNav on the XE has randomly placed the car in Le Havre. A 20 odd mile journey home across Surrey yesterday didn’t clear it and I can’t find any reference to re-setting it. Despite being parked out the front of my house, it thinks it’s in France! Has anyone got any ideas on what may have caused...

Re: Wire wheel spinner removal
I found this on the MWS website, it makes a lot of sense and it seems I’m worrying about nothing.
It also seems I’ve been doing it slightly wrong over the last 40-odd years.

Wire wheel spinner removal
On my 420 Sovereign I’ve got wire wheels with ‘Continental’ spinners. I’ve got an adaptor that I use to take them off and put them back on – with brute force (and ignorance!) I’m looking for ideas on how to complete this using a more ‘engineering’ method, perhaps with an adaptor that has a long-arm ...

Re: XE Battery replacement
Andy, I had to look up what 'BMS' was too. Battery Maintenance System. It's a bit of 'smart' technology that oversees the battery. Clever stuff really and one of those things that's great until it goes wrong or needs attention. But, hey-ho, that's modern cars for you. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/B...

Re: XE Battery replacement
Paul/Mike, thanks very much for the comments. I’m so slow at times, it wouldn’t have occurred to me that the ‘positive’ lead would have stayed live if I’d connected a 2nd battery, so I think on balance I won’t go down that route. After leaving it parked all day without the charger on, I took various...
