Re: 96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
Thanks Mike, yes I was definitely thinking this needs to be looked at with the correct diagnostics software and a more experienced hand than mine. I am an automotive engineer but this is not my area of expertise, I'm far more mechanically & design based. I may just have to bite the bullet on this on...

Re: 96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
So the woes continue, however in different orders. So I've just done a 28 mile run to work (A & B roads as I didn't want to risk breakdown on motorway). The engine misfired about 3 mins in to the journey and P0335 got logged. This stayed until I coasted down a long hill to a set of lights and it cut...

Re: 96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
So, an update: Battery charged (12.74V) re-fitted with ground point now secure, drove the car 2 miles and towards the end of the journey some missing, engine fault popped up, then gearbox fault and defaulted to 4th gear then stability control fail. However the engine did not stall. P0335 logged on e...

Re: 96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
I also must admit, since ownership my car has been a weekend occasional use car sat in a lock-up, as such it can be left for weeks at a time and I've always disconnected the battery when I've left it to avoid it discharging. Only since fitting the new battery I've not been doing this, perhaps the ba...

Re: 96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
Thanks, I will try that, although the battery was only replaced a few weeks ago (Bosch S4) so is well within warranty. But I'll whip it out and give it a good charge as it has some work done in a bodyshop and was with them for 3 weeks prior to these issues. I will add that the battery has had no iss...

Thanks Mike,
I've worked on other VAG group vehicles and it is certainly the same for those. Thanks for the info.

96 XK8 suspected CAN BUS issue (ECU TCU ABS Cluster)
Good Morning all, Further to my post in the Engine section I now think I've narrowed down my engine cutting-out issue to a fault somewhere within the CAN network. Or at the very least there is a fault within the CAN network AND on the engine. But I need to fix both if indeed there are two issues. So...

Re: 96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
Ok, so the weirdest thing car still cuts out intermittently. In addition the Rev counter and coolant temp gauge both drop to zero and when I attempted a restart still didn’t move. In addition the climate unit beeped and “Er” appears on the display for a few seconds. So I did a hard reset which so fa...

Re: 96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
Thankyou Astromorg, So, some progress, I swapped over the relays, and P1367/8 have not re-appeared. So that could be one source and for £10 for the relay I may change the critical ones given they are 23 odd years old now. however it seems my car clears it's fault codes upon every ignition re-start w...

96 XK8 P1367 & P1368 Fault Codes & Engine Stalling - Now P0335
Morning All, Well I seem to have fixed the previous fault code (P0335) pointing towards the crank sensor, replaced that with a genuine part. However now I have some gearbox faults and engine faults. Gearbox I think is low on fluid (small leak from o/p shaft seal and I only topped it up a few years a...

Re: OBDII Code Reader for 1996 XK8
Thanks, I found a youtube video (Secrets of the XK8) in which the chap (John) has an almost identical car to mine and showed how to use a fault code reader, I simply ordered the same on: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B013DSTPWY?ref_=pe_3187911_248764861_302_E_DDE_dt_1 £14 off Amazon, and it is the sim...

OBDII Code Reader for 1996 XK8
Morning all, I've got an engine fault with EML light on, it currently goes off when switched off and switched back on but returns upon startup after a few miles. I think it's throttle body related as it cuts out for a second or two while driving. Anyway I've tried some cheap OBDII readers but I've g...

Re: Recon PAS Pump Failure Twice! in 3 years
I haven't tried measuring the pressure, but as you say I'd need some specialist equipment for that.
I do have a spare rack, I assume that the valve controlling the assistance and thus the pressure is on the rack?

Recon PAS Pump Failure Twice! in 3 years
Hi All, Just wondering if anyone has any experience on this, I've got a 1996 XK8 4.0 approaching 130k miles now. Since I've owned it it will now be needing it's third PAS pump which seem ludicrious! Especially since I bought it on 122k miles. The first pump failed a few years ago, the bearing went a...

Afternoon all, Just registered with the club, I live in Oxfordshire and own a 1996 XK8 Convertible in Carnival Red. I've been re-commissioning/restoring it over the past few years now while using it in summer and have worked my way around the car. With a young family now the car s on the back burner...
